We’ve set ambitious targets, backed by thoughtful planning, smart design, and genuine community collaboration. Now, we’re looking for a passionate, skilled Environmental Sustainability and Utilities Officer to join our growing team and help turn our plans into real, measurable outcomes for the community.

If you’re ready to use your knowledge and expertise to make a lasting impact - on our neighbourhoods, our city, and our planet - we’d love you to join our growing team.

About The Role

The Environmental Sustainability and Utilities Officer is responsible for supporting the effective and sustainable management of Council’s utility services, including electricity, natural gas and water. The role oversees essential data management activities, ensures the accuracy of utility records and contributes to continuous improvement of energy and water management processes. It provides operational support in utilities billing, environmental reporting and the maintenance of Council’s utilities database.

The officer assists with annual corporate reporting on greenhouse gas emissions and water consumption. They also work closely with project managers to ensure new utility connections and disconnections are set up correctly across all Council systems, enabling reliable billing and seamless transitions for facilities undergoing upgrades or service changes.

Key Responsibilities

You oversee day‑to‑day utilities billing, monitor automated payment thresholds and work with internal teams and utility retailers to resolve discrepancies. You provide accurate usage data for audits, reporting and internal enquiries.

You support new and upgraded site connections by ensuring accounts, meters and billing details are correctly established and recorded. You assist with tenant on‑charging processes, gathering and validating data across teams. Building strong relationships with stakeholders is central to the role, and you act as a key contact in resolving utility issues and improving environmental performance.

About You

You thrive in a role that requires accuracy, problem solving and strong stakeholder engagement. You are confident interpreting utility data, investigating billing issues and communicating clearly across teams and with external partners. You bring strong organisational skills, resilience and the ability to manage competing priorities timely. A background in data and resource management, engineering environmental science or similar areas—along with experience in utilities, sustainability or data‑focused roles—is highly regarded.
