About Boroondara

At Boroondara, we’re not just talking about climate action — we’re doing it. And to show we mean business, we’ve created a new, dedicated Climate Action and Sustainability department to drive meaningful change and deliver on the commitments outlined in our Climate Action Plan.

We’ve set ambitious targets, backed by thoughtful planning, smart design, and genuine community collaboration. Now, we’re looking for a passionate, skilled Climate Action Communications Officer to join our growing team and help turn our plans into real, measurable outcomes for the community.

If you’re ready to use your knowledge and expertise to make a lasting impact - on our neighbourhoods, our city, and our planet - we’d love you to join our growing team.

About The Role

The Climate Action Communications Officer will develop and deliver high-quality communication activities that promote climate initiatives both within Council and across the broader community. It will create engaging, accessible and audience-focused content for a range of channels and support the delivery of behaviour-change-focused campaigns aligned with the Climate Action Plan.

This role works collaboratively across the organisation and with external stakeholders to raise awareness, build engagement, and drive participation in climate programs. It will play a key role in ensuring our messages are accurate, timely and impactful.

Key Responsibilities

The role will develop and deliver engaging climate-related communication materials across a range of channels, ensuring all content is accurate, accessible and aligned with the Climate Action Plan. This includes creating digital and print materials, supporting behaviour-change-focused campaigns, and distributing communications strategically to maximise awareness, engagement and participation.

Furthermore, it will monitor and evaluate communication activities, using data and insights to refine and improve approaches. Finally, it will also build strong relationships with internal teams, councillors, community groups and external stakeholders, preparing reports and presentations that support collaboration and help keep stakeholders informed and aligned with climate action objectives.

About You

You are an enthusiastic communicator with a passion for sustainability and community engagement. You bring experience in communications, sustainability, marketing or environmental education, and you are confident producing clear, compelling content for a range of audiences and platforms. You value collaboration, take initiative and can manage multiple priorities with ease.

Your strong communication skills, digital capability, relationship-building strengths and commitment to delivering high-quality work will enable you to inspire and empower our organisation and community in taking climate action.
