About the Opportunity
As part of the Sustainability Program, the Principal Climate Change Advisor plays a lead role in shaping and delivering the City of Adelaide’s climate change strategy, projects, policy and emissions reduction initiatives. This role is responsible for delivering initiatives that contribute to Council’s climate action objectives. You will drive the City’s community and operational greenhouse gas inventories, supporting compliance with international, state and local reporting obligations including Council’s reporting through the CDP disclosure cycle.
The role leads the delivery of climate-related projects and programs, supports the development of emissions reduction targets and policies, and helps embed sustainability considerations into operational, financial and strategic decision-making. Working across the organisation and with external stakeholders, you’ll provide expert technical and strategic advice on carbon reduction, climate mitigation strategies, reporting methodologies and environmental performance.
You’ll play a key role in building partnerships across Council, government agencies, industry and the broader community, representing the City of Adelaide within external working groups, committees and forums. The role also contributes to Council reports, briefings and workshops, while staying informed on emerging trends, policy developments and technologies related to climate change mitigation and sustainability.

About You
To be successful in this role you will have:
- Highly developed project management skills which underpin the timely development and delivery of strategies, projects and programs and assist in cross functional collaboration.
- Substantial experience with the development and implementation of environmental policy and/or project delivery in sustainability and climate change policy (adaptation and mitigation).
- Substantial experience in working collaboratively in large organisations to deliver project outcomes in the field of environmental management and sustainability within an urban environment.
- Highly developed communication and negotiation skills in order to work effectively across the organisation, with senior management and external agencies.
- Thorough understanding of environmental sustainability and climate change issues relevant to Capital Cities and the relevant policy directions of the South Australian and Australian governments.
- Extensive experience with leading, developing and reporting greenhouse gas inventories.
- Working knowledge of Climate Active Carbon Neutral Standard and the Global Protocol for Community-Scale Greenhouse Gas Emissions Inventories.
