Researcher - Environment and Climate Action
Citizen consumer and civic Action Group (CAG) is a non-profit, non-political and professional organisation that works towards protecting citizens' rights in consumer and environmental issues and promoting good governance processes, including transparency, accountability and participatory decision-making.
Project description
CAG has been working on issues concerning energy and the environment for over two decades. Our work focuses on contributing to environmental sustainability and inclusive governance by engaging with the government agencies with data-supported representations and empowering the local communities and citizens in the adoption of climate-friendly alternatives through a combination of demystification, awareness generation, capacity building, research and technical interventions.
Roles and responsibilities
● Undertaking research and publishing reports on environment/ climate and energy-related issues (emerging programs, policies, regulatory areas) to establish subject matter expertise
● Managing research projects to achieve objectives
● Networking with stakeholders to achieve collective objectives
● Organising knowledge sharing meetings and capacity building workshops
● Performing other tasks as may be assigned by the senior management
Education
Candidates should have a graduate or a postgraduate degree with specialisation in environmental studies. Graduates/post-graduates from other streams, with relevant experience and knowledge in energy and climate-related topics, may also be considered.
Competencies
Professionalism: Knowledge and understanding of relevant concepts, public policies and regulations in relevant areas of work, approaches and public discourse. Strong knowledge of research methodologies
Experience: 2-3 years of experience working on environment and climate-related topics
Teamwork: Work collaboratively with colleagues and partners to achieve organisational goals
Communication: Speak and write clearly and effectively in English and Tamil, listen to others, clearly interpret messages, openness in sharing information and keep people informed
Planning: Develop clear goals that are consistent with agreed strategies, identify and adjust priorities, time management, and provide for contingencies while planning
Location
The position is based in Chennai, with travel for field visits and conducting workshops and meetings
