Researcher - Environment and Climate Action
Citizen consumer and civic Action Group (CAG) is a non-profit, non-political and professional organisation that works towards protecting citizens' rights in consumer and environmental issues and promoting good governance processes, including transparency, accountability and participatory decision-making.
Project description
CAG has been working on issues concerning solid waste management, energy and the environment for over two decades. Our work focuses on contributing to de-centralised solid waste management, environmental sustainability and inclusive governance by engaging with the government agencies with data-supported representations and empowering the local communities and citizens in the adoption of climate-friendly alternatives through a combination of demystification, awareness generation, capacity building, research and technical interventions.
Roles and Responsibilities
The selected candidate will support programme implementation under the Environment & Climate Action (ECA) and Solid Waste Management (SWM) domains at CAG. The role will involve a mix of research support, programme coordination, stakeholder engagement, and field-level monitoring.
- Support data collection, documentation, and organisation of information in a structured format for analysis and reporting.
- Assist in coordinating with stakeholders to gather institutional, policy-related, and programme information.
- Support the planning, coordination, and implementation of outreach activities, events, and conferences, including stakeholder outreach and liaison with government departments, educational institutions, speakers, and partner organisations to obtain permissions and facilitate participation.
- Assist with event logistics, on-ground coordination, and documentation, including recording attendance, outcomes, photographs, and post-event reporting.
- Monitor and support waste collection operations, ensuring activities are carried out as planned and issues are promptly flagged.
- Conduct periodic field visits to monitor on-ground implementation and provide updates to the programme team.
- Maintain regular communication with on-ground staff, Panchayat representatives, the donor team, and other stakeholders to support coordination of project activities.
- Ensure accurate recording, digitisation, and organisation of operational and field data.
- Assist in preparing periodic reports and programme documentation, and maintain clear communication with programme leads and team members.
Education
Candidates should have a graduate or a postgraduate degree from social work/ journalism/ environmental studies’ streams. Graduates/post-graduates from other streams, with relevant experience and knowledge in energy and climate-related topics, may also be considered.
Competencies
Professionalism: Knowledge and understanding of concepts in relevant areas of work, with a clear motivation to work with communities and ability to network with multi-stakeholders.
Experience: 2 years of experience working on environment and climate-related topics is preferred.
Teamwork: Work collaboratively with colleagues and partners to achieve organisational goals.
Communication: Speak and write clearly and effectively in Tamil and English. The correct candidate must be able to listen to others, clearly interpret messages, be open in sharing information and keep the team informed at all times.
Planning: Develop clear goals that are consistent with agreed strategies, identify and adjust priorities, time management, and provide for contingencies while planning
Location
The position is based in Chennai, with travel for field visits and conducting workshops and meetings
