Role Overview

The Technology and Climate Tech Industry Practice Risk Engineer will support Chubb’s Technology and Climate Tech Industry Practices by evaluating property and casualty (P&C) risks, delivering client-focused solutions, and driving thought leadership. This role will focus on businesses in the technology sector (software, hardware, telecommunications) and the climate tech sector (organizations developing products and services to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, adapt to environmental changes, or address climate impacts).

The successful candidate will collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, leveraging Chubb’s premier risk engineering capabilities to create innovative solutions and growth opportunities. Depending on seniority, this role may include leadership responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Risk Engineering and Client Engagement:
  • Conduct P&C risk evaluations for businesses in the technology and climate tech sectors.
  • Deliver tailored risk management solutions to address client needs and industry challenges.
  • Occasionally conduct site visits and risk surveys, providing recommendations for risk improvement.
  • Industry Engagement and Thought Leadership:
  • Represent Chubb in key industry associations and conferences related to technology and climate tech.
  • Build relationships with external stakeholders to enhance Chubb’s reputation and capabilities.
  • Develop and maintain expertise in technology and climate tech - related risks and emerging technologies.
  • Deliver Chubb’s brand of industry practice thought leadership to the marketplace.
  • Collaboration and Innovation:
  • Work closely with regional underwriters, claims teams, and regional/country risk engineers to develop innovative solutions.
  • Partner with academia, government, and industry associations to stay informed on emerging risks, technologies, and regulations.
  • Contribute to the global development of risk engineering frameworks, policies, and best practices for climate tech risk oversight.
  • Training and Development:
  • Develop and deliver training programs, educational materials, and seminars to enhance the skills of underwriters, risk engineers, and brokers.
  • Monitor the quality of technology and climate tech risk evaluations and refine processes to ensure excellence.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience And Expertise

  • Previous years of experience acquired in the insurance industry, risk management, or technology/climate tech sectors, with a preference for multiline risk engineering experience.
  • Proven expertise in complex product safety, contractor liability, worker safety, fire safety and/or emerging risks.
  • Strong understanding of applicable codes, standards, and regulations for technology/climate technologies.

Technical Knowledge

  • Expertise or education in technology, environmental sciences, or climate tech related fields.
  • Experience assessing risks in subsectors such as: software/hardware, advanced manufacturing, renewable energy supply chain, carbon capture, EV infrastructure, ag-tech, alternative materials, and other climate tech sectors.
  • Ability to assess emerging risks where codes and standards are limited or non-existent.

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to distil complex topics into plain language.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities, with a focus on high-priority issues.
  • Proven track record of delivering exceptional client service and value-added solutions.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in project management, team leadership, and collaboration.
  • Ability to operate independently in a remote setting while driving results across multiple stakeholders.

Location and Travel:

This role is flexible but ideally based near one of Chubb’s larger offices in the EMEA region. Travel within the region may be required for client engagements, internal meetings, and industry events.
