Description and Responsibilities
The Manager role provides strategic communications and marketing support to the Investor Network and Company Network teams and the Just and Inclusive Economies program. In this role, the Manager liaises with the Ceres network teams and the Ceres Communications and Marketing team to ensure communications coordination and integration across teams and to ensure consistency in messaging in thought leadership and across all media and marketing materials.
The Manager is responsible for developing communications plans, messaging materials, and execute a range of integrated paid and earned media activities such as rafting press releases, columns, blogs, newsletters, and other messaging for Ceres’ website and other digital channels. The Manager cultivates relationships with the media and the communications staff of the network members to generate media attention – this includes drafting and placing quotes and columns and organizing media briefings. The Manager supports the marketing team with messaging support for network team-led events, webinars, and other convening and marketing one-pagers that highlight the value proposition of the networks to prospective members.
Ceres is looking for a candidate with strong communications and writing skills and superb project and relationship management skills. This position reports to the Senior Manager, Communications, Investor Network and Company Network.
This role is a full-time position that may work remotely or in the Boston, MA office or San Francisco, CA office. Candidates must be flexible to work with employees in all US time zones.
Specific duties include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Create, develop, and support execution of short and long-term Investor Network/Marketing strategies to increased awareness, revenue, and donor recruitment, stewardship, and retention
  • Design key Investor Network/Marketing collateral, including donor reports, newsletters, program briefs, and pitch decks, and develop copy for fundraising appeals, events, and special projects
  • Support video projects development including scriptwriting, marketing plans, and product rollout to key audiences
  • Institute a process for vetting, tracking, evaluating, and update existing and new Investor Network/Marketing collateral to align with Ceres new brand strategy
  • Ensure strong internal communications and record-keeping, provide project management, and facilitate communications and check-ins within and across teams
  • Work closely with Ceres Visual Communications and Design team and external marketing vendors and consultants, as required
  • Develop content expertise on a wide range of sustainability issues, including climate change, and how sustainable capital markets play a critical role in accelerating the transition to a sustainable economy
  • Conduct targeted media relations and outreach to generate uptake in earned news coverage of Ceres experts/thought leadership as well as investor and company leadership and action
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 3 years of work experience in journalism, advocacy or business writing, strategic communications, or marketing
  • Knowledge of or experience working on environment, finance, energy, water, and/or sustainability or environmental justice issues, a plus
  • Experience with producing content and messaging that resonates with various audiences including the investor and business communication and the media
  • Experience in thought leadership writing for an advocacy, investor and corporate, and news audience
  • Highly developed written, verbal, and visual communication skills with keen attention to detail
  • Demonstrated initiative and motivation, and ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Sound judgment and high level of integrity and professionalism, with an ability to manage confidential information and maintain discretion, diplomacy, and courtesy in all contacts
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), other database applications, teleconference and webinar systems and standard e-mail computer applications
  • Interest and willingness to be trained on specific Ceres’ applications necessary for success: Salesforce, Bloomberg, and others
  • Desire to work in a not-for-profit, advocacy-focused organization

  • Willingness to travel as needed
Compensation: The hiring salary is $79,000 to $81,000 and pairs with competitive benefits.
