About the Co-op Program
The Ceres Co-op Program is a six-month opportunity designed to provide undergraduate students, graduate students, and individuals within six months after graduation with meaningful work experience in the nonprofit sector, focusing on sustainability issues.
Each participant is assigned a supervisor to provide direction, support, and mentorship throughout the program. This immersive co-op offers students an opportunity to gain professional work experience that furthers their education. Co-op participants will collaborate on projects and initiatives across various teams with programmatic impact at Ceres. Please note, while individuals hired into this co-op will be assigned to a department within Ceres and notified of their assigned project prior to their start date, each applicant will have the opportunity to provide a cover letter with a ranked list of the project(s) that would be of interest.
This role is a temporary, full-time, hybrid position within commuting distance to Boston, MA. Co-ops will attend in-person meetings or events approximately 2-3 times per month. Candidates must be flexible to work with employees in all US time zones.

Specific duties include but are not limited to the following:
  • Assist teams in planning, coordination, and execution of various projects, initiatives, and events.
  • Support data tracking, research, and analysis for various programmatic or organizational initiatives.
  • Draft communications including infographics, research briefs, presentations, and memos for internal and external audiences.
  • Provide scheduling support for internal and external stakeholder meetings including developing meetings agendas, coordinating meeting logistics, taking minutes, and ensuring appropriate follow-up.
  • Other projects as assigned.
Projects for Consideration
  • Project #1: Data Reporting with Organizational Strategy, Planning, and Results (OSPR) Team - The OSPR co-op will help support OSPR’s monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL) projects, including interpreting and analyzing Ceres’ internal and external sustainability-related data sets. We are looking for a systems-thinker who is well-versed in Excel, data science, analysis, and visualization. Ideally, this individual would be familiar and interested in corporate sustainability. An additional benefit would be familiarity with platforms such as Bloomberg, Salesforce, AI, etc.
  • Project #2: Methane and Data Centers with the Climate & Energy Team - Reducing methane emissions is one of the quickest, cheapest ways to address near-term climate change. To meet global net-zero targets, the oil and gas sector must cut its methane emissions 75% by 2030. That’s why our team prioritizes engaging oil and gas companies on methane emissions abatement. Ceres leadership has led to all International Oil Companies (IOCs), and an increasing number of National Oil Companies (NOCs), joining the Oil and Gas Methane Partnership (OGMP)2.0, the global framework for methane emissions measurement and mitigation. All large oil and gas companies in the U.S. now have flaring and methane emissions reduction targets. But more can and needs to be done: (i) getting more NOCs, more Canadian companies, more midstream companies and more small companies to join the OGMP 2.0, and (ii) moving from commitments to action and results.
Also, Ceres is leveraging a time-sensitive opportunity to mobilize institutional investors, companies, and policymakers to address the rapid growth of energy and water consumption in the tech industry, which is jeopardizing the availability of freshwater, the elimination of greenhouse gases (GHG) from the power grid, the health of people and communities, and the integrity of natural ecosystems.
The co-op will support both projects by: conducting analysis and research, writing briefs, memos, and other research and analytical items, coordinating internal activities across teams at Ceres, and by organizing engagements with tech sector companies, investors, NGOs, policy makers, regulators, and other key stakeholders.
  • Project #3: Valuing Water Finance Initiative with the Water Team - Ceres works with companies, investors, policymakers, environmental organizations, and other stakeholders to improve water stewardship and increase reporting on water issues that pose risks to businesses, communities, and the environment. This co-op will help us advance our work on assessing and addressing corporate water risks and opportunities primarily through the Valuing Water Finance Initiative - a global investor-led initiative to engage a focus list of 72 companies belonging to industrial sectors responsible for the most severe and systemic impacts on freshwater resources, and the Water and High-Tech Working Group — a hub for investor education and idea sharing.
This co-op will conduct company and sector research, develop materials such as research briefs for use in investor engagements with companies as well as slides for company and investor briefings on research findings. This role offers exposure to corporate benchmarking, sustainable finance, investor engagement, and water stewardship while providing opportunities to collaborate with several Ceres teams and external stakeholders. Deliverables may include research documents, presentation decks, survey drafting and analytical inputs that inform investor-company engagements.
  • Project #4: Regenerative Agriculture with the Food & Forests Team - Food companies are increasingly developing and disclosing strategies that are centered on regenerative agriculture. Investors are interested in ensuring that regenerative agriculture strategies are linked to companies’ material climate and nature-related risks. The co-op will examine regenerative agriculture practices and their expected outcomes to create an easy-to-interpret matrix of the various outcomes that result from regenerative practices. These insights will help strengthen the business case for regenerative agriculture by identifying where practices can create value for companies, investors, and producers. The findings will directly support our work in guiding corporate strategies, engaging with companies and investors, and advancing pre-competitive collaboration.
The co-op will also provide ad-hoc research for the Business for Sustainable and Resilient Agriculture Working Group, the Dairy Leadership Roundtable, and the Wheat Leadership Roundtable.
Qualifications
  • Currently matriculated in an undergraduate or graduate program or within six (6) months after graduation.

  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative, prioritize, multitask, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills and effective presentation style.
