About the Water Team
Ceres’ Water Program promotes capital market solutions to the global water crisis by accelerating private sector leadership on sustainable water management, through cutting-edge research, investor mobilization and advocacy. Ultimately. the work is about changing the way the world’s largest economic actors value and manage water resources.
About the Role
The Senior Manager helps lead our work with the investment community around addressing water risk within their own investment strategies and with the companies in which they invest. The Senior Manager will support the Ceres’ Valuing Water Finance Initiative, the Water and High-Tech Working Group, and other strategic investor engagements on water. The role will have an emphasis on sectors that create the most severe and systemic impacts on water resources to improve the sustainability of their water-related policies and practices. The Senior Manager will bring expertise on working with institutional investors on sustainability issues, including water risk, to the program’s efforts to protect freshwater from impactful corporate practices.
This full-time, exempt position reports to the Director, Valuing Water Finance Initiative, Water and may be performed remotely or in the Boston, MA office or San Francisco, CA office. Candidates must be flexible to work with employees in all US time zones.
Specific duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Support the execution and strategic refinement of the Valuing Water Finance Initiative – a global investor-led initiative engaging with companies on water risk.
- Organize and help implement investor-led engagements (e.g. dialogues and proxy resolutions) with priority companies on water to ensure constructive engagements and dialogues that help drive company progress, including identifying research needs and developing facilitation proposals for the engagements.
- Partner with the Director on thought leadership in the development of the business case for ambitious investor and corporate action around water risk.
- Engage in relationship building and educational efforts with institutional investors in the Valuing Water Finance Initiative and the Water and High-Tech Working Group as well as other investors interested in water topics.
- Help maintain and strengthen relationships with investors and other key stakeholders such as NGOs and consultants.
- Organize and execute internal/external meetings, webinars and workshops related to water risk including overseeing the production of materials.
- Represent Ceres in external partnerships and at strategic convenings/events regarding water and ESG integration and disclosure.
- Coordinate with other Ceres teams such as the Investor Network and Company Network, among others to further investor and corporate engagement on water risk issues.
- Supporting the Communications and Marketing team to further messaging around Ceres’ investor-water priorities.
- Support the Ceres Development Team with content on funding proposals, progress reports, and funder education.
- Participate in water team activities such as weekly team meetings, quarterly and annual program reviews, strategy and annual planning meetings.
- Help manage processes for hiring consultants and interns and/or coop students, including hiring, onboarding, and training activities.
- Other tasks or projects as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or commensurate experience required.
- Minimum of seven (7) years of full-time related work experience required; experience in the sustainability or corporate social responsibility fields, ideally with a focus on water, highly preferred.
- Knowledge of water themed investing and solutions.
- Understanding of the various roles, skillsets, and activities related to the institutional investor marketplace.
- Experience in investor engagement and/or shareholder advocacy.
- Understanding of private sector levers of influence.
- Strong relationship management skills.
- Understanding of the trends in ESG integration and responsible investing.
- Experience using financial data platforms such as Bloomberg a plus.
- Experience cultivating effective relationships across diverse gender identity, race, ethnicity, and socio-economic backgrounds.
- Strong meeting facilitation, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Sound judgment, sensitivity to diverse constituencies, excellent interpersonal skills, superior leadership ability, and proven record of strong initiative and motivation.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Meeting facilitation and public speaking skills.
- Excellent project management, research, and writing skills.
- Successful record organizing and executing multiple projects under tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), other database applications.

Compensation and Benefits
The hiring salary is $81,100 – $96,350 with competitive benefits (Pay Grade 16). Ceres offers fantastic benefits including opportunities for hybrid and remote work; 80%, 82% or 85% (depending on your coverage election) employer paid health insurance and 85% employer paid dental insurance; a 403(b) retirement plan with a generous match that starts on day one; generous allowances for commuter and work from home expenses; flexible spending accounts to set aside money on a pre-tax basis for eligible expenses; 10 holidays, generous vacation, and additional paid time off including week-long summer and winter breaks, summer Fridays, and sick, personal, and parental leave.
