Description & Responsibilities
The Director will lead talent acquisition, including our intern program, workforce planning, and employer branding. We are looking for a creative, people-centered, strategic thinker with an inclusion mindset who will anticipate and plan for short- and long-term talent needs in alignment with organizational strategy. The Director will lead and direct the work of a team of four. The position is full-time and reports to the head of People and Operations. Candidates may work remotely but are also welcome to work from our Boston or San Francisco offices. Primary duties include, but are not limited to:
Lead Workforce Planning

  • Meet regularly with program and department directors to develop staffing strategies that fit team needs and organizational plan with consideration of: Department needs, career growth for existing staff, grant funding opportunities and strategic organizational design
  • Conduct individual talent and team effectiveness assessments to support succession planning, high-potential employee development and organizational design effectiveness.
  • Create and implement succession planning process and build succession plans for key roles throughout the organization, including development of talent pipelines
  • Review gaps in leadership/management capability or capacity across departments and develop action plans accordingly.

Lead Employer Branding and Employee Value Proposition

  • Oversee employer branding for Ceres to include revising the Employer Value Proposition and developing and implementing a communication and marketing plan for the EVP.
  • Develop strategic approaches for identifying and attracting diverse candidates

Lead Talent Acquisition Strategy

  • Responsible for developing and driving talent acquisition metrics and trend analysis. Leverage metrics and performance for coaching and team development. Partner with hiring leaders, HR leadership and Senior Management to take action based on trend analysis.
  • Assure proper recruiting metrics are measured and reported on in a consistent manner and are used to assess effectiveness of strategies and progress towards goals
  • Assure optimization of the applicant tracking system (ATS), and oversee selection and implementation of new ATS if deemed necessary
  • Develop and coordinate talent acquisition strategy that meets the needs of the Organization
  • Coordinate development of and approve job descriptions that eliminate bias
  • Assign requisitions to recruiters including grouping and accelerating or decelerating hiring for roles based on workforce planning process
  • Oversee, manage and develop the Talent Acquisition team to encourage professional growth
  • TA team duties include:
  • Recruiting to fill all open positions
  • Sourcing for open positions
  • Pipeline development
  • Assuring hiring candidates pools include candidates from diverse backgrounds
  • External Engagement with colleges and professional organizations
  • Manage branding and communication of EVP
  • Oversee intern and Co-Op program
  • Cultivate interns and Co-ops for full time roles
  • Oversee data management and reporting
  • Manage hiring process for executive-level positions

Organizational Talent Strategy Expertise

  • Research market developments and best practices in management, workforce planning and talent acquisition
  • Identify opportunities to leverage technology for talent acquisition and workforce planning
  • Serve as a subject matter expert and consult to organization regarding critical people issues
  • Build and maintain relations with external partners

We understand that there are many paths to acquiring expertise and experience and therefore welcome candidates from diverse and nontraditional backgrounds for this role who have demonstrated equivalent transferable skills to carry out the major duties outlined in this job description, including the following required skills:

  • At least 10 years in the human resources sector, showing progressive growth in positions;
  • Experience in talent acquisition and workforce planning, required;
  • Demonstrated commitment to building and retaining a diverse workforce;
  • Experience cultivating effective and productive supervisory relationships with direct reports across gender identity, race, ethnicity, and socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Well-organized with strong project management skills and proven experience in connecting people and projects across functional areas;
  • Demonstrated experience as an effective verbal and written communicator;
  • Experience creating, selecting, and/or using systems to track data to inform reporting to senior leadership and improve processes;
  • Ability to juggle multiple projects and a can-do attitude to work effectively in a fast-paced environment;
  • Effective collaborator and ability to perform all duties appropriately in a multicultural environment, while treating all persons with dignity and respect and experience being flexible, efficient, and diplomatic with diverse constituent groups.
  • A commitment to working in a mission-driven organization with a strong level of curiosity to understand what is going on in the organization in order to make sound recommendations and choices about workforce planning;
  • Strong emotional intelligence, an ability to lead with empathy and inquiry, experience developing trusting relationships with colleagues, and an ability to manage confidential information;
  • Skilled in using technological solutions for talent acquisition
  • Knowledgeable of the Microsoft Office Suite (outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, teams, SharePoint), and comfortable with CRM systems such as Salesforce; and

Compensation: The hiring salary is $107,000 to $112,000 and pairs with competitive benefits.
