The Lead Plant Supervisor is responsible in supporting a district energy plant (steam, hot water, chilled water and combined heat and power systems) at Louisiana State University. Responsible for overseeing the safe and efficient and reliable operation of a district energy plant (steam, hot water, chilled water equipped with combined heat and power (CHP) systems). This leadership role requires a combination of technical expertise, team management skills and a commitment to safety and environmental compliance. Through teamwork, we will ensure overall plant compliance with applicable safety, environmental and operational permits or guidelines. Plant System Management: Lead the operation and optimization of steam, hot water, chilled water and combined heat and power (CHP) systems. Team Leadership: Develop operators to enhance their skill and knowledge related the steam, hot water, chilled water and CHP systems, contributing to a skilled and knowledgeable workforce Foster for a safety-first culture and enhance adherence to safety protocols and regulatory requirements Maintain and update the shift schedule. Training and development: Develop and implement training programs for plant operators to enhance their skill set and knowledge, keeping them educated on industry best practices. Operational Oversite: Oversee the day-to-day operation of steam boilers, turbines, generators, chillers and associated equipment Make informed decisions to address operational challenges and maintain plant reliability Maintenance and Troubleshooting: Coordinate and supervise maintenance activities, shut down and repairs related to the steam plant and CHP system Complete maintenance work orders utilizing a computerized maintenance management system. Will be responsible to review and approve equipment logs Identify and propose improvements to enhance system performance and reduced environmental impact Monitor and adjust system perimeters to maximize energy efficiency and meet operational targets Collaboration: Collaborate with other areas such as maintenance, engineering and management to achieve overall plant goals and objectives Communicate effectively with Operations Team, Management, , external stakeholders and Utility partners Minimum education is a high school diploma or GED Must have a minimum of 10 years practical experience as a Plant Operator with the following: Monitor and control the operation of boilers, turbines, generators and other equipment to produce steam efficiently. In depth knowledge and hands on experience and operating, optimizing, and maintaining chilled water, steam, condensate and cooling towers, including a solid understanding of the simultaneous generation of electricity and useful heat associated with CHP Operating and maintaining boilers, chillers, cooling towers, evaporative coolers, ice water storage, pumps, fans, RO systems, water softeners, switchgear, MCC, feed water pumps, condensate system, steam induction pumps, isolation and control valves, a Delta V or other operating systems, human machine interface (HMI), diesel pumps, tanks, generators, air compressors, water lab testing and safely handling chemicals. Ensuring clear communication, coordination and collaboration amongst team members to ensure efficient and safe operations. Capability to develop operators to enhance their skill and knowledge related the boiler chiller and CHP systems, contributing to a skilled and knowledgeable workforce Troubleshooting: Proficient in identifying and resolving technical issues related to chillers, boilers and CHP systems, including diagnosing Max functions, conducting root cause analysis, and implementing corrective actions Regulatory Compliance: Knowledge of environmental regulations, safety standards and other relevant industry guidelines prevent pertaining to Steam Plant and CHP operations Data Analysis : Monitoring and analyzing performance data using insights to optimize efficiency, identify potential improvements, and make driven decisions based on the data Energy Efficiency Optimization: Optimizing the overall energy efficiency of CHP system, implementing strategies to maximize the utilization of waste heat and improve the systems overall performance Must be available on as needed work nights, weekends and holidays Must have computer skills and familiar use of Microsoft Office Must be able to work with minimal guidance and supervision Only authorized employees are permitted to use company vehicles, this includes Industrial trucks (forklifts, scissor lifts, etc.) This position is based at CenTrios plant located on campus of Louisiana State University (LSU).
