LGNSW advocates on behalf of members and their communities on policy to decision makers at state and federal levels. We also provide a comprehensive range of services including industrial relations representation, management services and training.
About The Role
The Senior Policy Officer will join the Environment team within the Advocacy division.
This Role
This role is four days (30.4 hours) per week. The salary for this role on commencement is $106,444 plus superannuation.

About The Role
The Senior Policy Officer will join the Environment team within the Advocacy division.
This Role
- Provides expert advice and support to guide the delivery of high quality policy outcomes.
- Actively maintains a detailed knowledge of environment issues, including climate change, emissions reduction, biodiversity and sustainability, and LGNSW policy positions to identify and respond to emerging issues.
- Effectively builds relationships and liaises with key stakeholders to ensure policy positions are coordinated, aligned to member and stakeholder feedback and consistent with LGNSW positions.
- Develops high quality draft papers, submissions, and reports for consideration by LGNSW, member councils and stakeholders.
- Represents the sector in stakeholder forums and meetings.
- Supports delivery of the annual Environment Symposium and Awards.

Essential Requirements
- Tertiary qualification and demonstrated knowledge and experience in environmental issues, such as emissions reduction, climate change, sustainability, biodiversity or natural resource management.
- Demonstrated high level verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
- Demonstrated experience in a public policy environment, with an understanding of relevant legislation and government policies on environmental issues.
- Understanding of local government practices and policies.
- Excellent analytical skills, ability to research and think strategically.
- Planning and negotiation skills, and ability to exercise sound judgment.
- Experience in priority setting, report and agenda writing.
- Demonstrated ability to work with others across the organisation, and at all levels.
- Demonstrated ability to work productively to achieve results, with minimal supervision.
