Key responsibilities

Project leadership and delivery

  • Manage multiple MEP projects simultaneously from schematic design through construction documents and construction administration.
  • Develop and control project scopes, fee proposals, work plans, staffing, and schedules.
  • Track budgets, earned value, and invoicing; identify out-of-scope work and negotiate additional services.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for architects, owners, contractors, and other consultants.

Technical oversight

  • Lead design of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, lighting, fire protection, and low-voltage systems, or oversee discipline leads doing so.
  • Review calculations, drawings, and specifications for accuracy, constructability, and compliance with IBC, IMC, IPC, NEC, NFPA, ASHRAE, and local codes.
  • Coordinate MEP systems with architectural and structural disciplines, including clash detection in Revit/BIM.
  • Perform QA/QC reviews before each milestone submission.

Construction administration

  • Review submittals, shop drawings, and RFIs; issue ASIs and change documentation.
  • Conduct site observations and prepare field reports and punch lists.
  • Support commissioning, energy code compliance, and project closeout.

Team and business development

  • Mentor and develop engineers and designers; delegate work and provide constructive feedback.
  • Support proposals, interviews, and client pursuits; build long-term client relationships that generate repeat work.
  • Contribute to firm standards, specifications, and process improvement.

Required qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Architectural Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
  • 8+ years of MEP design experience at a consulting engineering or design-build firm, including 3+ years managing projects.
  • Demonstrated experience delivering projects in at least two sectors such as commercial office, healthcare, K-12, higher education, mission critical, or multifamily.
  • Working knowledge of Revit MEP and AutoCAD, plus load and energy tools such as Trane TRACE, Carrier HAP, or equivalent.
  • Strong command of applicable building, energy, and life-safety codes.
