What You’ll Work On
The Head of Product Management — Environmental Division is responsible for leading a team of 5–8 product managers while personally owning product strategy, development, and lifecycle management for Campbell Scientific’s Environmental Division product portfolio. This role combines senior-level product management expertise with hands-on people leadership and coaching to drive both product excellence and a high-performing PM culture.
Campbell Scientific’s environmental monitoring products serve a diverse base of government agencies, research institutions, universities, and national laboratories that depend on accurate, reliable data for weather forecasting, climate research, hydrology, and environmental compliance. The Head of Product Management is the business owner for this portfolio — accountable for product direction, revenue performance, and market relevance across the full product lifecycle.
This role sets the standard for rigorous product thinking, deep market understanding, and client focus, while helping individual team members develop their skills and deliver measurable impact. The Head of Product Management works closely with engineering, sales, marketing, operations, and executive stakeholders to align the team’s work with the division’s growth strategy and the evolving needs of the environmental science community.
You’ll Support Your Team by Performing the Following Key Tasks
- Lead, coach, build, and develop a team of 5–8 product managers by setting clear expectations for performance, quality, and conduct.
- Meet regularly with team members and assist with career development plans.
- Remove blockers, resolve conflict, and advocate for team needs.
- Model best-in-class product management practices and represent the company at conferences, working groups, and customer events.
- Strategize, plan, and own the lifecycle for environmental monitoring products.
- Build and maintain roadmaps aligned to customer needs and business goals.
- Drive market insight through research, customer interviews, and competitive analysis.
- Define requirements and business cases for new and enhanced products.
- Track performance (revenue, adoption, satisfaction, positioning) and be flexible to adjust plans along the way, as needed.
- Support integrated hardware, software, and service solutions for scientific data workflows.
- Lead cross-functional execution from development through post-launch improvement.
- Translate scientific use cases into clear priorities and acceptance criteria.
- Lead go-to-market for major releases (positioning, pricing input, enablement, training, messaging).
- Engage directly with agencies and research customers to validate needs and concepts.
- Communicate strategy and tradeoffs to technical and non-technical audiences.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (or equivalent experience).
- 8+ years in product management, product development, or technical marketing.
- 2+ years leading, managing, or formally mentoring PMs or technical teams.
- Advanced product strategy and lifecycle management with technical products (hardware, software, and/or systems) for sophisticated customers.
- Strong communication and influence with technical and executive stakeholders.
- Credibility with scientists, engineers, and technical program manager.
- Experience owning roadmaps, requirements, business cases, launches, and lifecycle decisions.

- Proven ability to develop PM talent across experience levels.
- Strong feedback, mentoring, conflict resolution, and accountability skills, adapting the message to best suit others' needs.
- Strong ability to turn market and scientific needs into roadmaps and launch plans.
- Ability to lead complex cross-functional work with shifting priorities.
- Comfortable with business cases, ROI thinking, and data-driven prioritization.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- Working knowledge of weather and climate monitoring systems (sensors, loggers, telemetry, data platforms).
- Familiarity with government and research customer workflows and procurement.
- Awareness of relevant standards, regulations, and certification drivers.
Work Environment
The work environment is primarily a professional office setting. Work may also include remote collaboration, client interaction, field site visits to environmental monitoring installations, conferences, trade shows, product demonstrations, and travel to government agency or research institution locations.
This role routinely uses standard office equipment, including computers, phones, video conferencing tools, and other business systems.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to use computer systems and office equipment for extended periods of time. Work may require extended sitting or standing at a desk or workstation, as well as occasional standing, bending, and twisting consistent with normal business operations in an office setting.
Must be able to travel domestically and internationally as needed to meet with clients and agency partners, attend scientific conferences, participate in field demonstrations, support market research, and collaborate with colleagues.
