Specialist, Climate Change
Cameco's environmental systems and climate change team within the corporate safety, health, environment, quality and regulatory relations department is responsible for developing and delivering Cameco’s overarching climate change strategy to support the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, proactive management of climate-related risks and opportunities relevant to our operations and value chain, and managing common systems for site based environmental management programs. The team also supports the organization in developing and delivering annual sustainability reports for regulators, customers, investors, and other stakeholders based on existing requirements and evolving national and global trends.
In this role, you will:
- Lead the analysis and interpretation of existing and new climate and sustainability voluntary and regulatory reporting requirements and compile insights into potential organizational impacts to develop recommendations for Cameco.
- Support the ongoing use and management of Cameco’s Environmental Quality Information System (EQuIS) database through issue resolution, data input processes, dashboard maintenance, and collaboration with users.
- Support implementation of Cameco’s EQuIS database and processes in remaining operations.
- Coordinate the collection, verification, and reporting of Cameco’s annual sustainability report data.
- Analyze and interpret collected data to identify opportunities to continuously improve Cameco’s environmental performance as well as provide internal and external reporting based on trends and changing standards.
- Support the collection and reporting of sustainability and climate information as requested by external stakeholders.
- Work collaboratively with internal groups and individuals from a variety of professional backgrounds and disciplines to gather feedback and develop positions on changing sustainability and climate-related policies and/or voluntary and regulatory reporting requirements.
- Support the development of materials and processes to effectively organize, trend, and communicate Cameco’s environmental action information to internal and external audiences.
- Participate in climate-related physical risk management and adaptation assessments, organizational engagement activities, energy/emissions management assessments and initiatives at industrial operations.
Required:
- bachelor’s degree in relevant environmental, applied science, policy or engineering field
- a minimum of three to five years of relevant experience, with preference towards environmental, sustainability, climate change, nature, biodiversity, policy/regulation and reporting experience
- strong communication, collaboration, project management and data analytics skills; and
- proficient with Microsoft Suite.
Recommended:
- previous experience in the mining or nuclear industry;
- applicable professional designation, certification or certification in-progress;
- familiarity with Canadian and Saskatchewan regulations governing environment, sustainability and climate action;
- familiarity with environmental management and data management processes and EQuIS tools are an asset; and
- knowledge of globally recognized sustainability and climate-related disclosure and reporting requirements, such as the International Sustainability Standards Board, Canadian Sustainability Standards Board, Taskforce for Climate-related Financial Disclosures or Taskforce for Nature-related Financial Reporting.
