Demand Flexibility Assessment Lead - Electric Generation System Program Specialist II

Do you have an extensive background in California's demand flexibility programs? California Energy Commission (CEC) is hiring a Demand Flexibility Assessment Lead within the Reliability Analysis Branch of the Energy Assessments Division (EAD).

Our Demand Flexibility Assessment Lead will serve as the prime resource and innovator relating to demand flexibility assessment. The Demand Flexibility Assessment Lead will perform complex engineering, economic, policy analysis relating to demand flexibility and distributed energy resource policy and market development issues, including the statewide load-shift goal analysis and recommendations.

Our Reliability Analysis Branch has primary responsibility for assessing Californias electricity supply and system, electricity reliability, identifying trends for planning and decision making, energy emergency planning and response, as well as identifying and analyzing decarbonization strategies as California transitions toward a clean energy future.

Energy Assessments Division (EAD) assesses Californias electricity, natural gas, petroleum, and transportation systems and trends to provide information to the states decision makers and the public. These assessments inform the development, and implementation, of energy policies that balance the need for adequate resources with economic, public health, safety, and environmental goals.

** Telework option is available, but hired candidate must reside in California before starting.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • A deep technical knowledge of demand flexibility assessment models and methods.
  • A strong understanding of Californias policy landscape related to demand flexibility utilization and distributed energy resources.
  • Expertise with handling, analyzing, and interpreting large and complex datasets.
  • Experience with developing DER-related engineering and/or statistical models using Python, R, or similar software.
  • Experience with leading and/or participating in stakeholder processes.
  • Ability to lead team and perform independent tasks that contribute to a shared goal.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to communicate technical information in a simple, consumer-friendly manner.
