The Efficiency Division of the California Energy Commission develops regulations and programs aimed at enhancing energy efficiency across the state, contributing to California's clean energy goals.
Key Responsibilities
-Regulations and Standards: The Efficiency Division is responsible for creating and updating energy efficiency standards for appliances and buildings. These standards are designed to reduce energy consumption, lower greenhouse gas emissions, and save consumers money.
-Programs and Compliance: The division administers various programs that promote compliance with energy efficiency standards. This includes providing technical assistance and education to manufacturers and consumers to ensure adherence to regulations.
-Building Energy Efficiency: The division plays a crucial role in the development of the California Energy Efficiency Action Plan, which serves as a roadmap for decarbonizing existing buildings. This includes updating building energy efficiency standards every three years.
-Appliance Standards: The division sets minimum efficiency levels for energy and water consumption in various products, including household appliances and consumer electronics. This helps shift the market towards more efficient products, resulting in significant energy savings.
-Support for Innovation: The Efficiency Division also supports innovative solutions to improve energy performance in communities, including partnerships with state and local governments to advance clean energy initiatives.
