Job Description – Sales Manager – ESS Residential

REPORTS TO: Director of Sales

BYD’s Energy Storage Sales team provides battery energy storage solutions to strategic customers in the residential, commercial and utility sectors. The team is hiring an Sales Manager – ESS Residential to support its rapid growth in North America. The candidate will work closely with the Director of Sales to achieve sales and profit goals within the assigned market(s). This is a great opportunity to learn and grow in the renewable energy industry, which is one of the fastest growing sectors in North America. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter with the ability to learn quickly, collaborate across teams, and work effectively in a dynamic environment.

The candidate will “own” particular strategic accounts and other sales opportunities as assigned and cultivated and will have an intimate understanding of the battery energy storage market. The candidate will be given great latitude in the performance of duties and will be expected to provide leadership in the development of solutions and management of the sales process, but the candidate will also operate within a disciplined sales environment. This will not be a commissioned sales position, but rather the successful candidate will be offered a base salary with a bonus that is based on achieving specific and attainable personal and team objectives.


Understand assigned market(s):

  • Identify and close sales opportunities in accordance with the Company’s overall strategic plans and financial objectives in the assigned market(s)
  • Stay abreast of market trends and rally actions to assure that BYD’s offers maintain leadership positions
  • Maintain a personal profile within the renewable industry in assigned market(s) by representing BYD and maintaining an extensive network of contacts and through active participation in industry associations and events.

Excellent Sales and Support for Target Accounts:

  • Lead sales and customer support for target accounts, to assure customer satisfaction and repeat business. Take responsibility for the target accounts’ overall customer experience
  • Develop and grow relationships with strategic prospects, large accounts, and distribution channels
  • Actively pursue direct sales leads with installers, distributors, investors and utility companies
  • Assist with revenue forecasting and review sales results to ensure goals are achieved.
  • Effectively engage resources internally and externally to move faster and with greater impact for the target accounts
  • Complete regular reports as assigned, such as quarterly business reviews, manufacturing forecasts and market updates.

The Successful Candidate must have:

  • BA/BS degree in a related technical or business discipline
  • Minimum of 2 years’ direct experience in a quota carrying sales role. Experience in sales or channel management of residential energy storage system or related in renewable product is preferred
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize
  • Knowledgeable to the renewable industry in North America
  • Excellent negotiating skill
  • Must be able to travel in US and Canada
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite
