Position Overview:
As a Machinist at BWXT NOGJ, you will perform a variety of duties within the Operations department and will support various programs across the site. This position will report directly to the Manufacturing Operations Supervisor. This position requires the ability to work any shift as dictated by production requirements (1st, 2nd or 3rd), the ability to work overtime, weekends and shifts of 10 to 12 hours per day. This opening has been designated as a 2nd or 3rd shift position. Working under general supervision and following established policies, a Machinist performs assignments in various areas of the facility to fabricate precision-machined, tight tolerance parts while maintaining a safe work environment, meeting quality requirements, customer specifications and shipment schedules.

Your Day to Day as a Machinist:
- Operate CNC lathes in manual, semi-automatic and automatic modes
- Operate conventional Engine lathes
- Set-up and Operation of various machinery and shop equipment with little or no supervision
- Fabricate quality product meeting customer specifications
- Use, operate and read inspection gaging equipment including but not limited to micrometers, calipers, comparators, shadow graphs, indicators, and Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM)
- Inspection of products both in process and post process
- Perform machine offsets
- Read and interpret blueprints and drawings
- Screen product lots
- Replace broken or worn tooling as required
- Advanced data collection, analysis and reporting activities
- Collect, analyze and utilize SPC data
- Collect, enter, analyze and utilize SPC data per Customer requirements
- Produce quality products to Customer specifications
- Maintain count and traceability of parts including tagging rejected parts
- Maintain water levels in chip drums and replacing chip drums
- Perform rework of parts when necessary
- Perform routine daily minor preventative maintenance (oil levels, grease, filter changes, etc.)
- Transport materials to and from operation as required
- Load and unload parts/blanks
- Complete and maintain daily production reports and records
- Maintain a clean and neat workspace
- Communicate daily process, machine, product status or other relevant manufacturing information to employee(s) and/or supervisor(s) who report to work on the next shift
- Report abnormalities related to production, maintenance, safety or quality to supervisor
- Troubleshoot processes and report feedback to supervisor
- Identify and escalate out-of-control processes
- Must be able to operate a tow motor and/or forklift
- May be required to wear a respirator in the performance of normal duties and will be required to maintain clean shaven protocol for respirator fit testing
- Perform duties in various areas of the facility as required to support production
- High school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 4 years of prior relevant experience or associate degree with 2 years of prior related experience or equivalent combination or education/experience. Relevant experience should be in an industrial or manufacturing environment
- Ability to interface effectively within Operations and with various support groups such as Maintenance, Quality and Engineering
- Must be able work effectively in a team environment
- Must be able to work 10 plus hours per shift. May be required to work any shift, 1st, 2nd or 3rd. Must be available to work overtime and/or on weekends as needed to support production efforts
- Must be a US Citizen with no dual citizenship
- May be required to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) or a Department of Energy (DOE) clearance
