The Position
This is a professional environmental planning position within the Resilience Unit of Broward County’s Public Works and Environmental Services Department. This position plays a lead role in the planning and advancement of climate resilience initiatives with a strong focus on adaptation within the urban environment. The successful candidate will serve as a member of a multi-disciplinary team to further county-wide resilience planning and investments, including support for risk assessments and review of projects for consistency with the County’s Resilience Plan. Activities include contributions to a wide range of projects, plans, and proposals, including comprehensive planning, land use considerations, water management and redevelopment strategies, and the co-benefits of green infrastructure projects. Responsibilities also include staffing support for various boards and committees. Efforts require coordination, interpretation, and application of technical information to help inform decision-making furthering the County’s climate resilience priorities.
General Description
This position plays a lead role in the furtherance of the county's climate resilience efforts with responsibilities that include project management, stakeholder engagement, and technical assessments. The preferred candidate will have a good grasp on the interplay between sea level rise projections, regional hydrology and stormwater management, green infrastructure, and the urban landscape. Candidates with knowledge and insights as to how resilience relates to community projects, infrastructure enhancements, technology innovations, and urban design are encouraged. Responsibilities include project and budget management, collaboration with community and agency partners, and participation in efforts of the Southeast Florida Regional Climate Change Compact. The preferred candidate will have an affinity for public policy and planning, demonstrated strong research skills, and and experience in processing and interpreting data. The position requires excellent communication skills, both orally and in writing. Candidates should be highly motivated, willing to take initiative, and enjoy a dynamic team environment. Experience with GIS, Excel, PowerPoint, and social media is preferred. Work is reviewed through regular meetings, reports, and assignments. Staff in the Resilience Unit report to the County’s Chief Resilience Officer.
Minimum Education And Experience Requirements
Requires a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in environmental planning, environmental science or closely related field.
Requires two (2) years in environmental/natural resource programs or closely related experience, including one (1) year of lead work/supervisory experience.
Special Certifications and Licenses
Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Class E driver's license for the duration of the appointment. (Depending upon the area of assignment)

Preferred candidates will have a Master's in Planning, Environmental Sciences, Environmental Engineering, Climate Science, Renewable Energy, or a related area of study.

Assists in the visioning and development of climate resilience strategies and projects within the urban environment, with emphasis on urban design concepts, architecture, planning, green infrastructure, and resilient energy strategies.
Provides technical support and engages with internal agencies, community stakeholders, and external partners on resilience projects and efforts.
Provides project management and support for contracted projects focused on resilience planning and community energy initiatives.
Proposes policies, procedures, guidelines and priorities to meet established goals related to the County’s resilience planning and investment needs.
Provides review of plans and projects for resilience considerations, and assumes a lead role in ensuring equity, diversity and inclusion priorities are integrated in planning and investment efforts.
Assists with development and advancement of resilience standards for infrastructure planning and investment.
Participates in land use plan reviews for resilience considerations and provides policy recommendations relating to land use and comprehensive planning.
Pursues partnerships and serves as a liaison with local, state, and federal agencies.
Identifies and pursues funding opportunities and partnership, procures services; manages grant funding and contract agreements.
Supports and participates in activities associated with the County’s role as a member of the Southeast Florida Regional Climate Change Compact.
Engages with diverse stakeholders, including private sector, academic entities, institutions, civic and community associations.
Provides support in the convening of task force meetings, roundtable, summits, and workshops.
Prepares agency correspondence, including technical memos, white papers, talk points and presentations.
Represents the Department in public forums and agency meetings.
Perform related work as assigned.
