Modal Power is a Solar IPP which owns a ~2.3GW portfolio of fifteen operating projects, four under-construction projects, and three pre-NTP assets.

About the Role

Modal Power is seeking a Director, Procurement to lead all capex and opex procurement for the business. The role will initially be focused on successfully advancing the three development-stage projects to NTP and COD, by taking them through the full capex procurement lifecycle, including sourcing strategy development, contractor engagement, and contract negotiation. Following this phase, the role will transition into a broader contract management, cost oversight and commercial governance position across the project and operational stack. This will include service contracts, spare parts and warranty management, and major/corrective maintenance capex.

This is a senior individual contributor role with no direct reports. The Director, Procurement will work closely with development, engineering, construction, finance, legal, and operations teams to ensure disciplined procurement execution, strong commercial outcomes, and alignment with Brookfield Energy’s procurement and governance expectations.

Capex Procurement for Development Projects

  • Lead end-to-end capex procurement activities for four development-stage projects, from early procurement planning through contract award and handover to execution teams
  • Develop and implement project-specific procurement strategies aligned with project schedules, risk profiles, and overall business objectives
  • Lead sourcing processes, including contractor prequalification, RFP development, bid evaluation, and commercial recommendations
  • Negotiate major contracts (including EPC, balance-of-plant, and key equipment supply agreements), ensuring appropriate risk allocation, cost certainty, and schedule protections
  • Partner closely with internal stakeholders to ensure procurement strategies support permitting, financing, and construction readiness milestones.

Commercial and Cost Oversight (Operating projects)

  • Lead periodic reviews of long-term service contracts for O&M and asset management, and source and negotiate new contracts as needed
  • In conjunction with asset management team, develop spare parts strategy and optimize sourcing, storage, and delivery across the portfolio
  • Establish and maintain cost control, benchmarking, and total cost of ownership perspectives across the asset stack
  • Provide end-to-end ownership of warranty claims and execution
  • Manage ad-hoc procurement for site-specific needs, including civil and electrical contracting
  • Support change management, claims evaluation, and commercial issue resolution during contract execution
  • Monitor supplier and contractor performance against commercial, schedule, and contractual commitments.

Stakeholder and Supplier Management

  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with key contractors, suppliers, and service providers relevant to Modal Power’s development and operating portfolio.
  • Act as a trusted commercial advisor to internal stakeholders across development, construction, operations, finance, and legal.
  • Coordinate with Brookfield Energy procurement and portfolio support teams to ensure alignment with broader sourcing strategies, frameworks, and governance requirements.

Market Intelligence and Risk Management

  • Monitor market conditions, pricing trends, supply chain risks, and contractor capacity relevant to renewable energy development and construction.
  • Proactively identify procurement and commercial risks and develop mitigation strategies in collaboration with internal stakeholders.
  • Apply a data-driven approach to procurement decisions, including cost analysis, benchmarking, and scenario evaluation.

Knowledge and Experience Required

  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive procurement experience, with a strong focus on utility-scale solar
  • Demonstrated experience managing all relevant contracts for utility-scale solar, including EPC, BOP, and key equipment supply contracts
  • Proven ability to independently lead complex procurement processes and negotiations
  • Strong commercial acumen with the ability to balance cost, risk, and schedule considerations
  • Ability to manage and direct the work of contracted service providers and technical specialists, and strong experience working as part of a large project team
  • Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and negotiation skills

Additional Notes

  • The position is based in Boston, MA, and will require close collaboration with cross-functional teams and external partners through the northeastern US and Canada, and on project sites spread out across the US
  • This role is an individual contributor position with no direct reports
  • Experience working within or alongside large infrastructure investors or portfolio company environments is considered a strong asset

Salary: $160,000.00 –$200,000.00, bonus eligible.
