Organization Overview:
Modal Power is a Solar IPP which owns a ~2.3GW portfolio of fifteen operating projects, four under-construction projects, and three pre-NTP assets. This position will report to the CEO and will be responsible for all construction, operations, and asset management for the portfolio, with a focus on efficient execution for the construction and pre-NTP assets and long-term value creation for the operating portfolio.

About the Role
The Chief Operating Officer (COO) is responsible for leading the strategy and scope for Construction, Operations, and Development across the entire Modal Power portfolio. The COO’s role includes the leadership and implementation of the organization’s business plan, taking projects from NTP to COD on-time and on-budget, post-COD onboarding of assets, value protection and value creation for the operating portfolio, establishing and executing an asset management strategy with internal teams and contractors, and pursuing consistent value optimization across the operating portfolio. Reporting to the CEO, the COO will collaborate closely with the Senior Leadership Team and Brookfield asset management teams in the development and execution of safe, reliable and efficient operations.
Key Responsibilities
• Responsible for supporting and maintaining a culture of safety, collaboration, accountability, trust, and customer / project focus across operations.
• Ensure operations are executed with high levels of safety and quality while encouraging continuous improvement. Maintains quality projects, QA/QC standards.
• Pre-NTP projects:
o Prepare pre-NTP assets for investment committee approval, tendering, and financial close, by approving project budgets and technical designs and completing de-risking around permitting, land acquisition, and interconnection
o Direct external engineering teams in development of optimized site plans to support development and permitting
o Tender, negotiate, and execute EPC agreements & key equipment supply contracts
• Construction projects:
o Select and manage third-party service providers for construction management and other technical services
o Manage all construction budgets and schedules for on-time and on-budget delivery; work with internal capital markets team in meeting key milestones for successful financial close
o Prepare standard reporting and KPIs for Modal Board of Directors
o Ensure the safe and successful completion of projects and transition to third party O&M and Asset Management contractors
• Operating projects:
o Oversee all third-party O&M and Asset Management contractors, and advises Board of Directors on long-term asset management strategy on contracting vs. self-performance
o Be responsible for the management of and coordination with key project stakeholders
o Develop, maintain and create value through commercial cost strategies with key external engineering, procurement and construction partners
o Track key business performance metrics and recommend implementing tactics to continuously advance performance
o Assess preventative, scheduled, and unscheduled maintenance issues and execute corrective action when required
Knowledge and Experience Required
• Senior leadership experience in utility-scale solar projects across construction and operations
• Demonstrated track record of improving operating performance and EBITDA for solar projects
• History of on-time and on-budget execution for construction projects
• Experience managing contracted service providers alongside internal team resources
• Value engineering mindset; financially literate and able to work closely with CEO and CFO on financial health of business
• Ability to deal with ambiguity and moving priorities and to set agendas accordingly.
• Strong communicator, able to articulate complex ideas with data and conviction to senior leadership and the Board of Directors as well as across the organization
• Leader of multiple teams and priorities with a driven focus on performance
Travel:
• Domestic travel 25-50%
Salary: $250,000.00 –$300,000.00, plus eligibility for a highly competitive performance‑based bonus.
