Club Sustainability Manager
A Bit About The Role
The National Lottery Community Fund has awarded British Rowing a grant to contract a Club Sustainability Manager for a year to support grassroots rowing clubs adapt to climate change, reduce financial vulnerability, and become leaders in environmental stewardship, particularly protecting the waters on which they row and the surrounding land.
The manager will create a toolkit for all clubs and help them with their specific requirements on a case by case basis. The aim is that over time, clubs will become beacons of sustainability, clean water champions, securing historic facilities, lowering emissions and restoring nature. This role will help to achieve this.
We are looking for a knowledgeable and engaging Club Sustainability Manager to educate, upskill and empower our clubs.

You will be knowledgeable about environmental sustainability and the benefits of this to volunteer-led clubs as well as the environment. You will be a positive, self-motivated and engaging person who will inspire them to take action.
Essential
Hours: 1 day a week for 12 months - fixed term contract
Salary: £1,250 per month plus expenses
British Rowing is the governing body for the sport of rowing, both indoor rowing and rowing on water. We are committed to ensuring that the sport continues to thrive from the grassroots right up to winning medals at the Olympic and Paralympic Games. We are responsible for participation and the development of rowing and indoor rowing in England and for the training and selection of individual rowers and crews representing Great Britain.

- Write simple environmental sustainability plans.
- Deliver sustainable activities.
- Introduce low-cost/no-cost nature projects.
- Provide carbon-reduction guidance and signposting to capital grants for projects.
- Facilitate initiatives and partnerships that encourage everyday behaviour change.
- Help identify volunteers who can continue your work once the contract has finished
- You will also report on a regular basis to British Rowing on progress

Essential
- Have knowledge and passion about environmental sustainability
- Be aware of the club structure in rowing
- Build and sustain relationships with a network of key people internally and externally
- Possess excellent interpersonal, problem-solving and negotiation skills
- Be able to multi-task
- Have first-rate planning and organisational skills and proven experience in coordinating successful events
- Microsoft word and powerpoint skills
- Ability to manage volunteers
- Have worked in the area of environmental sustainability, particularly how it works and could benefit grassroots sports
- Be able to drive
- Ideally you like to act on your own initiative
