About Brineworks

Brineworks is an Amsterdam-based climate tech company building ultra low-cost Direct Air Capture technology. Our proprietary electrolyzer captures CO₂ directly from the air while co-producing green hydrogen. This breakthrough unlocks affordable and scalable carbon removal and e-Fuel production.

The Role

We're looking for a Mechanical Design Engineering Intern (Test Stand) to design an upgraded version of our electrolyser test stand for our commercial scale stacks. You'll work closely with our Stack Architect.

What you'll do

  • 3D CAD Modeling: Utilize 3D CAD software to design test equipment
  • Equipment Sizing: Size pumps, tubing, pipes, and other equipment
  • P&ID Development: Draft and maintain accurate Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) to map out fluid, pneumatic, and instrumentation layouts for test systems.
  • Prototyping & DFM: Apply Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles, optimizing your designs for CNC machining, sheet metal fabrication, and 3D printing.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work directly with Senior Design Engineers, Chemists, and R&D Engineers to gather requirements for tooling and integrate feedback into your designs.
  • Assembly & Testing: Lead the physical assembly, plumbing, and validation of the test stands and fixtures you design.
  • Documentation: Write design, commissioning, and SOP documents

What we're looking for

  • Education: Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
  • CAD Proficiency: Experience with 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Fusion 360).
  • Mechanical Aptitude: A solid understanding of fundamental mechanical principles (statics, fluid dynamics, and materials science).
  • Hands-on Tool Experience: Practical experience operating standard manual and power tools for assembly, fabrication, and prototyping.
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain design decisions.
  • Reliable, self-motivated, and detail-oriented
  • Fluent in English
  • Please note: we are unable to sponsor visas for this role. Applicants must already have the right to work/intern in the Netherlands.

Nice to have

  • CNC experience (or willing to learn)
  • Lab experience
  • Previous engineering team experience (e.g., Formula SAE, Baja SAE, Robotics, or prior internships).
