About the Role
An opportunity has arisen for an Energy Analyst to join a leading organisation operating within Ireland's sustainable energy sector. This role will suit an analytically minded professional with experience in energy modelling, data analysis and programming, who is interested in contributing to research and analysis supporting energy efficiency, heating decarbonisation and the wider transition to a low-carbon economy.
Working as part of a collaborative research and insights team, the successful candidate will undertake energy modelling, develop analytical tools, interpret complex datasets and produce insights to inform policy development and decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct energy modelling and analytical studies, with a particular focus on evaluating energy efficiency measures and options for decarbonising heating systems.
- Develop and enhance analytical tools using programming languages such as Python, following good practices in coding, documentation and version control.
- Prepare, integrate and analyse datasets to improve the quality, accuracy and reliability of modelling inputs and outputs.
- Produce clear, concise analytical reports and technical briefings to communicate findings and support policy development and stakeholder engagement.
- Develop effective data visualisations to present complex information and highlight key analytical insights.
- Identify data gaps, monitor relevant research and contribute to the ongoing improvement of modelling methodologies, analytical tools and functionality.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with external stakeholders, partner organisations and service providers.
- Collaborate with colleagues across different teams and disciplines, contributing to wider research, policy and analytical projects.
- Represent the organisation at relevant national and international meetings, industry forums, presentations and webinars.
- Undertake additional analytical and research projects as required.
Knowledge and Skills
- Knowledge of building energy efficiency, heating technologies and the decarbonisation of energy systems, together with a genuine interest in climate action and sustainability.
- A good understanding of energy system modelling methodologies and their application in delivering advanced analysis.
- Strong technical and IT skills, including experience with programming languages, databases, modelling tools and data visualisation software.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a strong focus on accuracy, attention to detail and analytical rigour.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical findings clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- The ability to work effectively within a small, collaborative team while managing individual responsibilities and working independently when required.
- Good organisational skills, including the ability to prioritise competing tasks, manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- The ability to build positive working relationships with colleagues and external stakeholders at all levels.
Essential Requirements
- A minimum Level 7 qualification in Engineering, Computer Science, Science, Mathematics, Economics or a related discipline.
- At least three years' relevant experience in energy modelling, data analysis or a closely related analytical field. Relevant postgraduate research experience may also be considered.
- Practical experience using programming languages such as Python, or similar, and database querying languages such as SQL.
- Strong IT skills, including experience with tools and software used for modelling, simulation, data analysis and reporting.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical information into clear, accessible findings.
Desirable Experience
The following would be advantageous:
- Awareness of current research and best practices relating to energy system decarbonisation and modelling.
- Strong practical programming experience, particularly using Python or similar languages.
- Knowledge of the built environment, building energy performance and heating technologies.
- Experience with energy system modelling, behavioural modelling, energy efficiency analysis or decarbonisation projects.
- Experience developing and managing modelling workflows and data engineering processes using cloud-based technologies.
- Knowledge of statistical modelling techniques.
- Strong problem-solving and quantitative analytical skills.
Remuneration Package
This position is offering a very competitive salary as well as good annual leave.
