We’re Hiring: Industrial GHG Specialist

Location: Bengaluru

Employment Type: Full-time

Experience: Approximately 3–6 years

Breathe ESG is looking for an Industrial GHG Specialist who can combine strong carbon-accounting expertise with a practical understanding of industrial and manufacturing operations.

This role is ideal for someone with hands-on experience in industrial greenhouse gas accounting, product carbon footprinting, Life Cycle Assessment, Environmental Product Declarations, CBAM reporting, process emissions, and industrial decarbonization.

You will work across client consulting, technical methodology development, regulatory research, and climate-tech product development.

What You’ll Work On

Industrial GHG Accounting

  • Develop and review Scope 1, Scope 2, and Scope 3 GHG inventories.
  • Apply the GHG Protocol, ISO 14064, and other applicable standards.
  • Identify emission sources across complex industrial and manufacturing operations.
  • Review activity data, emission factors, organizational boundaries, assumptions, units, and calculation methodologies.
  • Prepare accurate, traceable, consistent, and audit-ready GHG inventories.
  • Manage industrial carbon-accounting projects from data collection through final reporting.

Product Carbon Footprints, LCA and EPDs

  • Conduct Product Carbon Footprint assessments under ISO 14067.
  • Perform Life Cycle Assessments under ISO 14040 and ISO 14044.
  • Develop cradle-to-gate, cradle-to-grave, end-of-life, and recovery-stage assessments.
  • Prepare Life Cycle Inventories for complex manufacturing processes.
  • Define functional units, system boundaries, allocation methodologies, cut-off criteria, and data-quality requirements.
  • Develop Environmental Product Declarations in accordance with EN 15804 and relevant Product Category Rules.
  • Coordinate with independent EPD verifiers and programme operators.
  • Use product-level environmental disclosures to support green procurement and international market access.

Industrial Process Emissions

  • Quantify combustion, process, fugitive, and non-combustion emissions.
  • Apply stoichiometric calculations, mass-balance methods, carbon-balance methods, and process-specific emission factors.
  • Interpret process flows, production data, energy consumption, material inputs, yield losses, co-products, and waste streams.
  • Assess emissions from calcination, reducing agents, chemical reactions, process vents, material transformation, and fugitive sources.
  • Select and document appropriate methodologies when standard emission factors are unavailable.

CBAM and Industrial Regulations

  • Support EU Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism compliance and embedded-emissions calculations.
  • Review direct and indirect emissions at installation and product levels.
  • Develop supplier-data collection, validation, evidence-management, and reporting workflows.
  • Support CBAM requirements for sectors such as steel, aluminium, cement, fertilizers, hydrogen, and other covered products.
  • Research and interpret India’s Carbon Credit Trading Scheme, Green Steel certification, Perform, Achieve and Trade scheme, and emerging industrial carbon regulations.
  • Convert regulatory requirements into clear calculation methodologies, templates, workflows, and client recommendations.

Industrial Decarbonization

  • Conduct emissions hotspot and abatement-opportunity assessments.
  • Evaluate renewable energy, energy efficiency, fuel switching, electrification, hydrogen, circularity, recycling, material substitution, carbon capture, and process-improvement opportunities.
  • Support decarbonization pathways, scenario modelling, and marginal abatement analysis.
  • Translate technical findings into practical recommendations for industrial clients.

Climate-Tech Product Development

  • Act as an industrial GHG subject-matter expert for the Breathe ESG product team.
  • Convert standards and regulatory requirements into product features, calculation logic, data models, validation rules, and reporting workflows.
  • Test automated GHG, LCA, CBAM, EPD, and product carbon-footprint calculations.
  • Work with product managers, developers, designers, quality-assurance teams, and sustainability consultants.
  • Help create scalable, technically accurate, traceable, and audit-ready carbon-accounting solutions.

What We’re Looking For

Essential Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Chemical, Environmental, Energy, Petroleum, Petrochemical, Mechanical, Metallurgical, or Industrial Engineering; Environmental Science; Sustainability; Climate Change; or a related technical field.
  • Approximately 3–6 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Hands-on experience in industrial GHG accounting, LCA, product carbon footprints, EPDs, CBAM, or industrial sustainability.
  • Strong understanding of activity data, emission factors, boundaries, allocation approaches, assumptions, units, and data-quality controls.
  • Ability to independently manage technical projects and client deliverables.
  • Strong analytical, numerical, Excel, technical-writing, and stakeholder-management skills.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience in steel, metals, cement, chemicals, petrochemicals, carbon black, automotive, oil and gas, heavy engineering, or another hard-to-abate sector.
  • Experience supporting third-party verification, assurance, audit, certification, or regulatory reviews.
  • Familiarity with SimaPro, GaBi or Sphera LCA for Experts, OpenLCA, ESG software, carbon-accounting platforms, Power BI, or similar tools.
  • Experience in sustainability consulting, climate technology, LCA consulting, certification, industrial organizations, or ESG software companies.

Software knowledge is valuable, but candidates must be able to explain and defend the underlying methodology rather than rely only on software outputs.

What Success Looks Like

Within the first 6–12 months, you will:

  • Independently deliver technically complex industrial GHG or product-carbon assignments.
  • Produce calculation models that are ready for client, auditor, verifier, or regulatory review.
  • Improve Breathe ESG’s industrial calculation methodologies and emission-factor libraries.
  • Contribute to automated GHG, LCA, EPD, CBAM, and decarbonization capabilities.
  • Conduct effective technical workshops with plant, sustainability, production, procurement, energy, finance, and management teams.
  • Become a trusted technical advisor to both clients and internal product teams.

Why Join Breathe ESG?

At Breathe ESG, you will work at the intersection of industrial sustainability, carbon accounting, climate regulation, decarbonization, and enterprise SaaS.

You will have the opportunity to solve real-world industrial sustainability challenges while helping build technology that makes carbon data more accurate, transparent, actionable, and audit-ready.
