Role Description

The Chief Sustainability Officer (CSO) is responsible for driving the organization’s sustainability strategy, including environmental, social, and governance (ESG) initiatives. This executive role ensures the company meets regulatory requirements, reduces environmental impact, enhances social responsibility, and strengthens long-term corporate resilience. The CSO collaborates with leadership teams, regulators, partners, and stakeholders to integrate sustainability into business operations and culture.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and lead the organization’s overall sustainability and ESG strategy
  • Oversee implementation of environmental and social impact programs
  • Drive carbon reduction, energy efficiency, waste management, and green operations initiatives
  • Ensure compliance with sustainability regulations, standards, and reporting requirements
  • Lead ESG reporting, including sustainability disclosures, audits, and stakeholder communication
  • Collaborate with supply chain, operations, HR, finance, and product teams to embed sustainable practices
  • Identify sustainability risks and opportunities to support long-term business resilience
  • Engage with government, NGOs, and industry groups on sustainability matters
  • Promote a sustainability-focused culture through internal training and awareness
  • Evaluate emerging sustainability trends and recommend strategic innovations
  • Lead sustainability certifications, climate action plans, and responsible sourcing programs
  • Manage sustainability budgets, KPIs, and performance dashboards
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Sustainability, Environmental Science, Business, Public Policy, or related field
  • 10+ years of experience in sustainability, ESG, corporate responsibility, or environmental management
  • Strong understanding of ESG frameworks, sustainability reporting standards, and global regulations
  • Proven experience leading sustainability initiatives in corporate environments
  • Excellent strategic planning, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication abilities
  • Experience with carbon accounting, climate risk analysis, or impact measurement is an advantage
  • Ability to influence senior leadership and drive organizational change
  • Knowledge of sustainable supply chain, green technologies, and environmental compliance
