Field Service Technician
Bloom Energy, a solid oxide fuel cell company, is looking for a Field Service Technician to join its world-class team. This individual should be a dynamic professional who is looking for a rewarding future in one of today’s most exciting technologies.
Location :
This role will be based in Santa Teresa, NM, and will report to the Field Service Manager.
Role and Responsibilities :
- Diagnose, maintain and troubleshoot Bloom Energy Servers at customer site(s)
- Utilize extensive product and industry knowledge to offer technical support to customers, perform fuel cell system maintenance, perform site upkeep, adhere to safety protocols, and perform issue resolution.
- Possess a comprehensive understanding of diverse electrical and mechanical systems, enabling effective troubleshooting and problem-solving.
- Follow company procedures and protocols, comprehend and follow customer access requirements
- Cooperate with a technical team and share information across the organization
- Comprehend and follow customer access requirements
- Maintain service vehicle and spare part inventory
- Maintain/build positive relationships with customers
- Produce timely and detailed service reports as required
- Work both autonomously and with a small team as needed
- Operate a service vehicle safely
- Other responsibilities as assigned
Skills and Experience :
- Strong electrical troubleshooting/diagnostic skills required
- Familiar with safety standards, especially those related to electrical work (OSHA & NFPA 70E)
- Prior experience as an electrician or electrical technician working with any of the following technologies: three-phase systems, uninterruptible power systems (UPS), electrical generation and distribution systems, power electronics, automatic transfer switches, and microprocessor-based control platforms
- Experience with various electrical/electronic test and measurement equipment
- Able to read and interpret electrical one-line diagrams and blueprints
- Experience with performing equipment maintenance in accordance with ANSI/NETA standards for Electrical Power
- Mechanical system aptitude, to include troubleshooting/repair skills
- Highly motivated and able to work autonomously
- Demonstrates sound judgment in the resolution of complex problems
- Team player who exhibits a high level of integrity and professionalism
- Communicates written and verbal English effectively
- Able to execute against written and verbal procedures and sequenced work instructions
- Able to regularly handle equipment up to 50lbs., occasionally may lift up to 70 lbs.
- Able to reach, squat, bend, and twist during the work day
- Able to use a ladder or stepstool regularly
- Able to facilitate 24X7 on-call duty
- Able to facilitate shift work as needed
- Able to regularly work alternative schedules (one week/month of Wednesday-Sunday, for example)
- Able to regularly support overtime to achieve quarterly goals
- Able to regularly travel (drive) throughout a large Service District (e.g. “Southern California District”)
- Able to travel occasionally to other US and international destinations
- Able to maintain a driving record in good standing
- Must have basic computer skills
Physical Requirements :
- Ability to lift 45-50lbs
- Ability to work at heights with appropriate PPE
- Able to reach, squat, bend, and twist during the workday
- Able to use a ladder or step stool regularly
- Ability to work in outdoor weather conditions
Training:
Training on-site in San Jose, CA at Headquarters, 1 week onsite and then a follow-on training session approximately two months later (in San Jose, CA at Headquarters).
Education:
The following MINIMUM levels of experience and or education are required:
• High school diploma & 6 years’ experience in electrical, process controls, or electro-mechanical fields;
- Or –
• Technical diploma, Journeymen Certification, Electrician Certification in a technical field and relevant industry experience of 4 years (electrician, electronics technician, field service, technician, test engineer, etc.)
- Or –
• 5 years or more relevant experience in commercial electrical, combined with electrical-related military experience (e.g. Navy Nuclear Electronics/Electrical Technician, or other technical position, military certified electrician or technician, Gas Turbine Electrician)
