The Opportunity
Black & Veatch is looking for an Environmental Leader to help build our Environmental Practice in Texas. This key leadership position reports directly to our Environmental Solutions Group Portfolio Leader. The leader will work on building an industry leading environmental practice focused on both private and governmental clients in Texas.

This is an impactful role to help Environmental Solutions scale. Championing Environmental Solutions in Texas, involves significant complexity. In addition to understanding the Texas market, the solution leader needs to be highly sophisticated in client needs, client communication, connecting complex service offerings and topics, regulatory drivers, and navigating multiple groups to integrate the offerings into client value. The leader needs to drive a science-based and business culture and attract professionals beyond our historically engineering and design focused services.

Our clients are seeing challenges related to air, land, water quality, ecosystem impacts, water scarcity, groundwater depletion, climate variability, sea level rise, saltwater intrusion, and evolving regulations, which are driving innovative environmental and water resource projects across the country. We anticipate an increased demand for visionary solutions that support resilient communities and ecosystems. This role will support growth areas beyond conventional Environmental core service areas and will think bigger picture with related subject areas such as resilience, sustainability, climate vulnerabilities and ecosystems. You would also bring an Environmental Community of Practice mindset to collaborate and achieve solution scalability goals.

The leader will work with our governmental, power, fuels and natural resources and industrial client facing teams to build a funnel of prospects and help capture work. Activities include developing strategies and go-to-market plans that link existing and new BV Solutions to market needs. The role will collaborate across the Solutions team, the Governments & Environment sector, and other company Business Sectors as needed.

Key Responsibilities
The role is a seller-doer (50%-50%) and has responsibility to drive strategy and developing/ implementing Solution growth campaigns and managing awarded work as a project manager, including the following.

Driving Sustained Growth Strategy Development

  • Builds Environmental Solution opportunities with Texas region clients and initiates all strategic activities to achieve scale. Evaluates markets arising from client needs and considers growth and profitability potential. Initiate and incubate future growth. Nurture alliances.
  • Works with the Environmental Solution group Portfolio Leader and with other Solution Leaders and initiative personnel to develop and implement growth initiatives.
  • Help facilitate work sessions to identify client needs and develop service strategies, and to launch and drive go-to-market activities.
  • Advances sales enablement to the local sales team by working with marketing teams and equipping them with tools, information, and resources that help them engage effectively with potential clients.
  • Prioritize B&V services that deliver value to meet that need; engages and manages B&V resources to enable the sell; and assembles overarching qualifications proving we have the capability to deliver that need.
  • Evaluates the overall Solution portfolio make-up and assesses against the TX market and operational risks at regular intervals to ensure our portfolio evolves to meet changing client needs over time.

Sales Funnel and Sustained Profitability

  • Oversees roll-up of the Environmental and related community of practice sales funnel, working closely with other Solutions Leaders and Environmental Solution Group Portfolio Leader. Works with regional Client Directors (CD)/Project Managers (PMs), Client Account Managers (CAMs) to assure blue-chip pursuits across our market sectors
  • Tracks the profitability of initiatives/campaigns and works with the Environmental Solution Group Portfolio Leader to remedy weaker performing areas.
  • Works with Solutions Leaders and support services within B&V to identify and implement new ways of delivering solutions more efficiently, focusing on improved profitability and/or improved competitive advantage.

Leading Clients into tomorrow with Go-to-Market Tactical Plans

  • Coordinates with marketing staff to promote environmental solutions in the sub region
  • Develops tactical go-to-market plans and tracks progress.
  • Ties existing group go-to-market tactics and implementation plans to the campaigns and promotes consistency amongst the plans.
  • Support existing Solution Leaders in executing their individual Solution go-to- market plans.

Nurturing Growth

  • Creates culture beneficial to service growth
  • Liaison with B&V Operations and support services on staffing requirements for growth and capability.
  • Work with other Solutions Leaders to compile needs and work with project delivery teams to grow and diversify sales and delivery capacity and capability.
  • Coach/mentor emerging leaders aligned to Solution Growth and the traits needed to achieve business outcomes. Be available for teaching Solution go-to- market strategies in our Business Leadership Program.
  • Manage Projects across North America
  • While business development is focused in the sub-region, projects could be assigned for proposal development and execution upon award at locations outside of the Texas subregion.
  • Project profitability including cost, schedule, quality and safety of environmental projects
  • Consistently deliver as-sold or better project execution results

Management Responsibilities
Acts as a project manager. Among responsibilities is management of a project team. The individual comprising this team may vary by project.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental studies, engineering, or sciences. Masters degree is a plus.
  • Proven success providing project management services for a diverse array of environmental projects to clients.
  • 10+ years of solutions-oriented environmental consulting and/or project management related to a diverse set of environmental projects.
  • Power, Water and Technology sector experience is strongly preferred, we would also like to see experience a strong foundation in one or two of the following: impact assessment and planning, regulatory compliance, air quality permitting, environmental remediation assessments, natural resources studies, water quality impact assessment, environmental site due diligence, acoustics and environmental noise assessment, climate solutions, and/or pollution prevention planning.
  • Demonstrated experience managing the development of major environmental impact assessment and review documents in compliance with NEPA or comparable state like CEQA or international requirements.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
