About This Position
We are looking for a highly motivated professional with a strong record in carbon removal markets. You will work in the Climate and Environment Division. The division is part of the Industries and Cross-Cutting Themes Department (ICT) and is responsible for offering environmental technical expertise to the market, our clients and the organization as a whole.
What You’ll Do
The primary objective of this consultancy is to assist the climate change team to bring state of the art knowledge in climate needed to build the business models or identify more competitive/climate carbon removal investments by:
Education: A master degree in Finance, Business Administration, Engineering, Environmental Science, International Development and/or other relevant fields.
Experience: Between 5 and 9 years of relevant professional experience in private finance, climate technologies and agribusiness, with experience working with private sector actors and development organizations. Understanding Latin America and the Caribbean shall be highly valued.
Languages: Proficiency in Spanish and English, spoken and written, is required. Additional knowledge of French and Portuguese is preferable.

Citizenship: Must be eligible to work in job location without the need for sponsorship.
Consanguinity: You have no family members (up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab.
Type of contract and duration
National consultant Full-Time, 19 months (up to 48 months, subject to eligibility).

What You’ll Do
The primary objective of this consultancy is to assist the climate change team to bring state of the art knowledge in climate needed to build the business models or identify more competitive/climate carbon removal investments by:
- Defining an overarching strategy to align existing products and financial/non-financial services with regional needs and opportunities to develop the Compliance Carbon Market (CCM) and Voluntary Carbon Market (VCM) with a focus on private sector priorities.
- Contributing to the creation of intellectual leadership products in priority areas within carbon markets. Providing insights and training into the state-of-the-art of the CCM and VCM in LAC, preparing IDB Invest officers for transactions and projects where carbon credits could play a role
- Developing practical tools for technical screening, prioritization and processing of investment, financing, and advisory opportunities related to carbon credits.
- Be responsible for the identification, selection and connection to technologies and companies that could provide solutions to specific challenges facing IDB Invest clients in the region.
- Support advisory projects with clients that seek to establish and implement decarbonization and resiliency strategies, commitments, and action plans.
