This role offers an opportunity to work at the cutting edge of carbon markets, climate policy, and project-level research, shaping the next generation of carbon intelligence tools in India’s evolving carbon economy.

Role Overview

As a Carbon Credit Researcher, you will lead and support research into carbon credit methodologies, project documentation, and emerging policy frameworks. You will help Bharat Carbon strengthen its intelligence base across voluntary and compliance carbon markets, supporting clients and partners in building credible, MRV-aligned carbon projects.

This is an applied research role that blends technical analysis, regulatory awareness, and environmental insight ideal for those passionate about climate innovation and carbon finance.

Key Responsibilities

Carbon Methodology & Registry Research

  • Conduct in-depth research on carbon credit registry frameworks such as Verra (VM0047, VM0042, VM0017), Gold Standard, and Puro.Earth.
  • Compare methodologies across nature-based, industrial, and engineered carbon removal projects.
  • Maintain a structured database of methodologies, baselines, and monitoring requirements.

Project Documentation & Development Support

  • Assist in preparing and reviewing DPRs (Detailed Project Reports) and PDDs (Project Design Documents) for carbon projects.
  • Support alignment with validation and verification requirements under recognized standards.
  • Collaborate with partners to ensure technical documentation meets registry compliance.

Policy, Market & Regulatory Intelligence

  • Track developments in the Indian Carbon Credit Trading Scheme (CCTS) and evolving sectoral mandates for emission reductions.
  • Monitor updates from MNRE, MoEFCC, and international regulatory bodies on carbon trading.
  • Prepare periodic policy briefs and insights for Bharat Carbon’s carbon intelligence platform.

MRV, Validation & GIS Research

  • Understand MRV (Monitoring, Reporting & Verification) processes, including validation and verification for nature-based solutions (NbS).
  • Research GIS and remote-sensing applications in monitoring ARR (Afforestation, Reforestation, and Revegetation) and agroforestry-based projects.
  • Support mapping and data-driven analysis for project-area assessments.

Analytical & Communication Support

  • Synthesize complex technical data into structured insights and comparative frameworks.
  • Prepare briefing notes, whitepapers, and internal research memos.
  • Collaborate with product and data teams to integrate research findings into Bharat Carbon’s digital platforms.

Who You Are

  • Strong understanding of carbon markets, including voluntary and compliance systems.
  • Familiar with carbon credit project cycles, documentation, and registry processes.
  • Experienced or knowledgeable in DPR/PDD preparation, MRV procedures, and validation/verification protocols.
  • Aware of GIS applications for monitoring ARR and agroforestry-based projects.
  • Excellent research and analytical skills; able to interpret policy and technical guidelines.
  • Background in Environmental Science, Forestry, Climate Policy, or Sustainability Management preferred.
  • Proficient in Excel / Google Sheets; familiarity with GIS tools or climate data platforms is an advantage.
