Seeking a driven, technically-oriented early career professional or rising college senior to join us for a summer internship in beautiful Jackson Hole, Wyoming. You are excited to learn how buildings and systems are put together, and you may have some hands-on drafting, design or consulting experience. You're a lifelong learner and are up for anything, including learning building science fundamentals, HVAC and plumbing design, knowledge management, and practical applications of technology and AI. Being based in Jackson, Wyoming for this summer internship is required. High performance in the internship may result in a full-time job offer.

JOB DESCRIPTION: SYSTEMS + SCIENCE ENGINEERING INTERN 


Responsibilities 

(~50% time) Shadow and get trained from colleagues to learn these aspects of company’s work through active consulting projects: 

  • Interpretation and application of building and energy codes, sustainability program requirements, and incentives programs 
  • Review of architectural and mechanical plans, specifications, and contractor submittals for compliance with requirements 
  • HVAC load calculations, duct design and drafting for single family homes 
  • Consulting strategies for implementation of best practice design and construction strategies for high-performance homes 

(~50% time) Coordinate and collaborate with technical mentors to populate a range of resources in company’s cloud database tool used for project management and design work.

  • Primary work will involve transfer of static information from technical product literature and building codes into a dynamic database, leveraging both manual and AI-supported workflows.
  • Key objectives include streamlined and standardized internal processes for design-phase review of project plans and specifications, and improved efficiency and quality of mechanical design work. 

General expectations for this role include: 

  • Attendance at internal staff meetings and external professional development or networking events
  • Outlining of objectives and work plans prior to starting work, and adequate documentation of decisions or activities 
  • Providing of regular status updates or reports in web-based project tracking systems and reviewing of progress with team 
  • Leveraging of other team members' expertise or knowledge when needed; understanding when to ask for help 


Internship Details 

  • Duration: 13 weeks starting in May or early June, suggested/negotiable 
  • Weekly work expectations: 32-36 hours/week
  • Stipend: $7500 (prorated for shorter or longer internship timeframe) 
  • Location: Jackson, WY office (one day/week remote work acceptable) 
  • Required supplies: Personal computer (laptop may be available to borrow if needed) 


Required Qualifications 

  • Legally authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship 
  • College graduate or rising senior 
  • Engineering or architectural studies or equivalent education or experience
  • Based in or near Jackson, Wyoming for in-office collaboration with teammates
  • Bonus for experience or demonstrated interest in buildings 
  • Bonus for experience with Revit or other drafting programs, and Python or other software coding tools 


Desired Competencies 

  • Self-starter with a can-do and “get things done” attitude 
  • Technical aptitude with ability to quickly learn and integrate new concepts and tools 
  • High initiative, always looking to improve things
