Context And Mission
Within the Earth Sciences Department of Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC-ES), the Climate Variability and Change (CVC) group undertakes fundamental research to (1) understand climate variability and change, including climate extremes, (2) investigate global biogeochemical dynamics, as well as the effectiveness and impacts of carbon removal technologies to mitigate climate change, (3) develop new Earth system modelling capabilities, and (4) improve our ability to simulate and forecast climate variations from one month to multiple decades into the future, both at global and regional scales. The group is also part of the development team and a key user of the EC-Earth global climate model (http://www.ec-earth.org) and as such collaborates closely with all members of the EC-Earth consortium.
CVC is looking for a research engineer or scientist to contribute to the group’s core modelling activities. We are particularly interested in candidates with a strong background in Earth system modelling, either at postdoctoral or research engineer level, who combine solid technical expertise (e.g., model configuration, coupling, HPC environments, workflow management, and code development) with scientific understanding of climate system processes and variability. The successful candidate is expected to actively support model development, experimentation, and diagnostics, while also contributing scientifically to ongoing research activities within the group and in collaboration with EC-Earth partners.
Depending on experience and interests, there is scope to contribute to research activities in areas such as:
All applications must be submitted via the BSC website and contain:
The selection will be carried out through a competitive examination system ("Concurso-Oposición"). The recruitment process consists of two phases:
In accordance with OTM-R principles, a gender-balanced recruitment panel is formed for each vacancy at the beginning of the process. After reviewing the content of the applications, the panel will begin the interviews, with at least one technical and one administrative interview. At a minimum, a personality questionnaire as well as a technical exercise will be conducted during the process.
The panel will make a final decision, and all individuals who participated in the interview phase will receive feedback with details on the acceptance or rejection of their profile.
At BSC, we seek continuous improvement in our recruitment processes. For any suggestions or comments/complaints about our recruitment processes, please contact recruitment@bsc.es.
For more information, please follow this link.
Deadline
The vacancy will remain open until a suitable candidate has been hired. Applications will be regularly reviewed and potential candidates will be contacted.
OTM-R principles for selection processes
BSC-CNS is committed to the principles of the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers of the European Commission and the Open, Transparent and Merit-based Recruitment principles (OTM-R). This is applied for any potential candidate in all our processes, for example by creating gender-balanced recruitment panels and recognizing career breaks etc.
