Context And Mission
This position is hosted by the Climate Variability and Change (CVC) Group within BSC's Earth Science Department. The CVC Group undertakes fundamental research to investigate global biogeochemical dynamics, and the effectiveness and impacts of carbon removal technologies to mitigate climate change.
We are offering a master internship to produce and evaluate the output of several Earth System Model simulations from the EC-Earth-CC model. The evaluation and analysis has a strong focus on ocean biogeochemistry, particularly on the ocean carbon component and its interactions with our climate. The variability of relevant variables will be evaluated against independent observational records and contrasted over different periods of time. This research will contribute to the European Space Agency projects SCOPE and PYROMAR.

The selection will be carried out through a competitive examination system ("Concurso-Oposición"). The recruitment process consists of two phases:
In accordance with OTM-R principles, a gender-balanced recruitment panel is formed for each vacancy at the beginning of the process. Key Duties
- Prepare scripts for model evaluation
- Evaluate and analyse the model output with a focus on the ocean carbon variables
- Education
- Being enrolled in a master degree in Computer Sciences, Mathematics, Physics, Meteorology or equivalent
- Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience
- Experience with Python
- Experience with UNIX/LINUX environments and scripting languages (bash,…)
- Additional Knowledge and Professional Experience
- Previous experience in marine sciences will be valued
- Fluency in English
- Experience of version control in a distributed team, including SVN or Git will be valued

- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to take initiatives prioritize tasks and work under set deadlines
- Highly collaborative spirit and ability to work as part of a large, strongly-coordinated team and to continuously share both knowledge and tools
- The position will be located at BSC within the Earth Sciences Department
- We offer a full-time contract (37.5h/week), a good working environment, a highly stimulating environment with state-of-the-art infrastructure, flexible working hours, extensive training plan, restaurant tickets, private health insurance, support to the relocation procedures
- Duration: Open-ended contract due to technical and scientific activities linked to the project and budget duration

In this phase, technical competencies, knowledge, skills, and professional experience related to the position, as well as the required personal competencies, will be evaluated. - 60 points. A minimum of 30 points out of 60 must be obtained to be eligible for the position.
