Job Title: Project Interns Needed at UNDP (UNDP Internship 2024)
Project Background
The project “Supporting Renewable Energy Transition in ger districts for an increase benefit to livelihood” aims to support 50 women headed households from the ger district of Ulaanbaatar with procurement and installation of electric heater, photovoltaic equipment for heating purposes to ensure healthy living condition with a clean indoor air quality for least advantaged households.
This project will promote a solution to introduce renewable energy based heating linked to market based incentive, along with chances for women to excercize community leadership and behaviour change.
To ensure that the environment for Mongolia carbon market is in place, the Ministry of Environment and Tourism will be supported to develop national carbon market regulatory framework. UNDP Acceleration Lab will run experiment to explore the role that women can have in managing of this climate induced health crisis but also empowers them to take the lead in transformative initiatives within their communities.
The objective of the project: To enhance community resilience in Mongolian sub-urban communities facing climate change induced health impacts and costs associated with air pollution, while simultaneously addressing gender inequalities and biases, by actively engaging and empowering women as key stakeholders in climate-resilient practices, inclusive leadership, and crisis prevention processes.
Output 1: Infrastructure development: Reducing the conventional coal burning techniques, by switching them to a clean, renewable, and sustainable energy will help improve living conditions in the ger district.
The project will introduce solar photovoltaic (PV) and heat storage systems to shift households in ger communities away from coal toward renewables, improving air quality.
Use of monitoring and evaluation techniques: standardized and reliable monitoring systems will be used to collect real time data which will verify emission reduction and credibility of the carbon offset program. Grid Reliance will be reduced as a result of the installation of the cleantech solution which will ensure less dependence from the overloaded electricity grid capacity.
Output 2: Increased community awareness and engagement, especially women empowerment: Engaging ger communities ensures their ownership of the change process.
Swift transition through innovative technologies motivates households to adopt cleaner alternatives, reducing air pollution’s health impact. Educational (Behavioral shift) initiatives encourage cleaner energy adoption, emphasizing health and environmental benefits.
Output 3: National Carbon market mechanism will be developed so that the carbon trade system will be officially applied for similar type of infrastructure projects.
The development of a national carbon market regulatory framework by the Ministry of Environment and Tourism will set the basis for widespread adoption of renewable energy solutions and catalyze a low-carbon energy transition in Mongolia.
Key stakeholders of the project are: Ministry of Environment and Tourism, City of Ulaanbaatar, UNDP CO.
The selected candidate will gain an insight into the international development field, particularly the UN system and UNDP operations, and a first-hand experience working with diverse stakeholders on a multi-faceted project.
Duties and Responsibilities
Core Functions And Responsibilities
Under the overall guidance and supervision of the National Project Manager, the intern is expected to provide a day-to-day support to the UNDP Project Unit. He/she will carry out the following specific tasks and responsibilities.
Candidates must meet one of the following educational requirements at the time of application:
Be enrolled in a postgraduate degree programme (such as a master’s programme, or higher);
Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (such as bachelor’s degree or equivalent);
Have recently graduated with a university degree (as defined in (a) and (b) above) and, if selected, must start the internship within one-year of graduation;
Be enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship program and undertake the internship as part of this program.
Experience
Applicants are not required to have professional work experience but experience working in interpretation and translation areas are highly desired.

- Support the project communications and advocacy related activities
- Provide support in preparation of program information and documents, including but not limited to social media posts, concept notes, workshop agendas, training materials, etc., and ensure the accuracy of the translated documents;
- Support the implementation of communications and media strategy, including drafting social media posts and other communication-related texts in accordance with UNDP communications policy and brand guidelines;
- Perform other related duties as required.
- Support the day-to-day project administration related work:
- Provide administrative and logistics support in the organization of online and in-person meetings, conferences, workshops, trainings and travel;
- Perform other relevant operational and administrative duties as relate to the project implementation
- Assist on procurement procedure in accordance with UNDP rules and regulations

- Excellent command of English, both oral and written;
- Outstanding interpreting, reading, writing, translating skills;
- Knowledge and understanding of technical matters in the working languages.
- UNDP will provide a stipend in the amount of USD 223.07 monthly in accordance with the provisions of the UNDP Internship policy, unless the intern is financially supported by another institution in which case UNDP will pay the difference if any. Except for the stipend, all other expenses connected with the internship will be borne by the intern or her/his sponsoring entity;
- Interns are expected to work full time, but flexibility is allowed during education programmes;
- The purpose of the Internship Programme is not to lead to further employment with UNDP, but to complement an intern’s studies. Therefore, there should be no expectation of employment at the end of an internship.However, successful completion of the internship can be used as a reference for further employment within the project.
- Interns are not considered staff members and may not represent UNDP in any official capacity.
- Selected Interns must be able to share proof of education enrolment and/or graduation, medical/ insurance valid for the location in which the internship will be carried out and for the duration of the internship. In addition, selected intern must provide self-certification of good health prior to starting the internship.
