Role Overview

We are seeking a high-caliber Copywriter with a specialized background in the Energy and Utilities sector. You will be responsible for translating complex grid modernization projects, safety initiatives, and clean energy programs into compelling narratives for customers, stakeholders, and regulatory bodies. The ideal candidate understands the nuances of the California energy landscape from wildfire mitigation to CPUC (California Public Utilities Commission) compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

Content Development: Write clear, persuasive, and accurate copy for a variety of channels, including email campaigns, customer notices, web pages, and educational brochures.

Technical Translation: Simplify "utility-speak" (e.g., kW vs. kWh, time-of-use rates, decarbonization) into accessible language that resonates with everyday residential and business customers.

Regulatory Alignment: Ensure all copy meets strict legal and regulatory requirements while maintaining a tone of empathy and transparency.

Collaboration: Work closely with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), legal teams, and product managers in San Ramon to ensure technical accuracy across all touchpoints.

Brand Consistency: Maintain the PG&E voice—authoritative yet helpful—across diverse topics like renewable energy integration and public safety power shutoffs (PSPS).

Required Skills:

  • Deep understanding of CA energy markets, utility billing, and grid infrastructure.
  • Proven ability to write for B2C and B2B audiences with a focus on "Plain Language" standards.
  • Familiarity with CPUC guidelines and the legal sensitivities of the utility industry.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365, Adobe Experience Manager (AEM), and workflow tools like Workfront or Jira.

Renewable Energy: Solar (NEM 3.0), EV charging infrastructure, and battery storage.

Safety & Reliability: Wildfire safety, vegetation management, and emergency preparedness communication.

Sustainability: Net-zero goals and California's decarbonization roadmap.
