Position Overview

AWN is expanding its Climate and Air Quality Team and is currently seeking an experienced Senior Climate Consultant. The team currently comprises staff based in Ireland and remotely in the UK.


Depending on the successful candidate, we are in a position to offer a hybrid role with flexible in-person office attendance at our Dublin office and working from home; or alternatively a fully remote position from areas within Ireland or the UK. A successful candidate in the UK will be offered a fully remote contract. Candidates must be based in Ireland or the UK, we are not in a position to hire candidates based outside Ireland or the UK.


The successful candidate will join our dynamic team collaborating on challenging and exciting projects spanning various sectors, including national infrastructure, renewables, data centres, large-scale residential developments (LDR), and commercial developments. The Climate and Air Quality Team includes environmental consultants, chemists, and environmental scientists.


While the role is based in the Climate and Air Quality team, the focus of the role will be on climate and assisting in developing our climate assessments.


The successful candidate will work closely with our multidisciplinary team having a focus on Climate to scope and deliver projects in line with client requirements. Candidates should have good people skills, be driven, and also work well in a team environment. A balance of technical, communication and written skills is sought to flexibly contribute to a variety of different projects.


Main Duties and Responsibilities

As a Senior Climate Consultant, the successful candidate will be responsible for:

· Coordinating climate assessments for Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Reports.

· Greenhouse Gas/Lifecycle carbon assessments for projects

· Climate change risk assessments for projects

· Ensuring projects can show compliance with Section 15 of the Climate Action and Low Carbon Development Act

· Keeping up to date with climate assessment methodologies, guidance, policy and legal requirements

· Technical report writing including preparation of EIAR chapters

· Undertaking EIA phases 1-4 for road infrastructure projects

· Providing leadership by overseeing, guiding, and managing junior team members and sub-consultants to meet project requirements effectively.

· Communicating with clients, external stakeholders, regulatory bodies, and sub-contractors to ensure compliance with all project requirements.

· Assisting in project and program management for large and complex projects, including post-planning approval assistance.

· Preparation of and creating proposals to address client needs


Essential Requirements:

· Minimum of 3 years’ experience working in the environmental/climate sector.

· Experience preparing greenhouse gas/lifecycle/carbon assessments using a variety of tools, or,

· Experience preparing climate change risk or adaptation assessment.

· Minimum BSc or BA (Hons) degree in environmental science or related discipline.

· Understanding of PAS2080:2023; IEMA/ISEP guidance Assessing Greenhouse Gas Emissions and Evaluating their Significance; TII guidance PE-ENV-01105 and PE-ENV-01104; and EU Technical guidance on the climate proofing of infrastructure.

· Self-motivated, organised and capable of working on their own initiative.

· High attention to detail, excellent report writing, and communication skills.

· Ability to problem solve and assemble various strands of complex data into clear, concise outputs.

· Capacity to respond to tight timelines, reporting needs, and internal reporting structures.

· Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

· Excellent proficiency in Microsoft Office.

· Confident orator, with the ability to present complex technical information in an accessible way to an audience


Preferred:

· >3 Years Experience

· Full Clean Driving Licence or Working towards would be beneficial

· Chartership in a recognized environmental professional body (e.g., IEMA/ISEP).


Salary

€48,000 to €65,000. We are committed to fair and consistent pay practices. Salary offers will be benchmarked against the successful candidate’s experience and how closely this aligns with the competencies and requirements of the AWN Consulting Senior Consultant role.
