Our client is a global, full-service control systems integration partner, delivering world-class automation solutions. They are seeking a Principal Control Engineer for their Energy Group, which has in-depth experience designing, building, optimizing, and commissioning control systems for chiller plants, boiler plants, cogeneration facilities, energy transfer stations, electrical microgrids, and city-wide SCADA networks.

Job Summary:

Works on a variety of control system projects. Serves as a technical leader and demonstrates expertise within controls engineering and the energy sector. Directs, consults, or coordinates multiple engineering efforts and teams. Works collaboratively with the assigned project leads, the supervisors, and company leadership.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science; Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or other pertinent curriculum combined with relevant technical experience.
  • 10+ years total experience, including work within the energy sector.
  • 3+ years as Senior Control Systems Engineer or equivalent.
  • Professional Engineering Licensure is a plus.

Technical Responsibilities:

  • Perform complex systems development and design work that may include I/O design, control system architecture, hardware and software submittals, test document generation, and other design responsibilities as required.
  • Maintain current knowledge of relevant technology of domain expertise. Maintain an advanced level of professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing technical publications, benchmarking best practices, and participating in professional associations.
  • Communicate and coordinate with other technical resources to provide recommendations, lessons learned, and other improved methods for delivering projects, thereby maximizing contributions to multiple projects.
  • Collaborate with the Business Development (BD) Team to develop technical proposals and presentations to internal and external customers to influence business decisions.
  • Collaborate with project managers of multiple projects at once to ensure technical deliverables are executed accurately on a timely and under-budget basis.
  • Provides technical consultation to the leadership team as needed.
  • Provide supplemental expert feedback, advice and mentorship to teams based on industry experiences, including specialized technical, financial, and operational perspectives.
  • Drive the company's overall design philosophies and procedures.
  • Actively share knowledge and provide impromptu training to other personnel on technical and professional issues.
  • Expert in understanding, practicing, and guiding others in the use of the company's Quality Management System (QMS).
  • Active participant in the company's senior technologist group.

Project Responsibilities:

  • Complete assigned tasks accurately, on schedule, and under budget.
  • Lead individual project-related tasks and/or large projects in their entirety.
  • Assume the ultimate responsibility for the successful completion of those projects or tasks on schedule and under budget.
  • Take on the role of the customer's main contact on those projects that the employee is assigned to lead.
  • Identify changes in scope to overall projects and/or tasks.
  • Provide support on other projects or tasks that are scheduled to be led by others.
  • Manage and delegate assigned tasks accurately, on schedule, and under budget.
  • Understands and anticipates customer needs.
  • Accurately estimates the duration and difficulty of tasks.
  • Ensures the team adheres to a realistic schedule and budget.
  • Seeks opportunities for new work with customers and contractors.
  • Promotes a positive/collaborative team culture.
  • Where applicable, directs and oversees junior or subordinate staff members regarding construction, operations, and/or maintenance tasks and assignments at a project site.

Travel required: Overnight travel may be required up to 25%

Note: To comply with state laws, the annual base salary range for this position has been provided as a guideline. The final salary offer will be determined based on factors such as work experience, education/training, key skills, and other considerations.
