The Organisation

The Australian Sustainable Finance Institute’s (ASFI) mission is “to realign the Australian financial system to be sustainable, resilient, and inclusive”. Their member base comprises of 40 of Australia’s largest financial institutions across banking, investment, insurance and financial services, who are committed to supporting ASFI’s mission. ASFI works with the finance sector, governments, civil society and other partners to achieve their goals of mobilising institutional capital for climate, nature and social impact.


The Role

As the Policy Manager you will lead the implementation of ASFI’s policy and government engagement workstream which works with the Australian Government including Parliamentarians and officials. This pivotal role involves influencing policy across financial, climate, environment and social domains to accelerate private capital flows toward sustainable outcomes, while securing support for ASFI's priority projects and positioning Australia as a leader in international sustainable finance. Beyond policy advocacy, you'll deliver key organisational projects, represent ASFI in external forums, and engage closely with members to advance the transformation of Australia's financial system toward a more sustainable, resilient and inclusive future.


Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead development of ASFI’s policy submissions to Government consultations, including member consultation and engagement with other peak bodies.
  • Direct engagement with key Government stakeholders (officials and parliamentarians), and supporting ASFI members to engage with these stakeholders, to influence policy and regulation in line with ASFI’s mission.
  • Design and execution of high-quality multi-stakeholder events such as roundtables, webinars, and panel events to support better policy outcomes aligned with ASFI’s Policy Platform.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholder across Government that support ASFI’s strategic objectives.
  • Supporting ASFI members to better engagement with relevant policy and regulatory development including through direct events with government, and ASFI member communications and briefing products.
  • Provide secretariat function for ASFI’s Advisory Committee including preparing agendas and policy-related meeting papers from draft to final stage.


About You

You are adept at working in a small environment where people's opinions are valued and listened to. You thrive on open communication and are energised by a dynamic and fast paced work environment. This role is suited to an experienced professional who is well organised and experienced at policy development and stakeholder engagement, particularly with government stakeholders, with a track record of delivering results in this area. With a relevant tertiary qualification, preferably in finance, public policy, law, environment or a related discipline, you will possess a minimum of seven years' experience in public policy, with experience in climate and sustainability and/or sustainable finance and private finance mobilisation.


Additionally, you will have:

  • Expertise in policy development, advocacy and engagement.
  • Experience in designing and managing high quality multi-stakeholder events and engagement such as meetings, roundtables and panel events.
  • Knowledge of sustainable finance and investment industry and/or climate change and sustainability issues.
  • Highly effective verbal and written communication skills including proven experience in coordinating multiple stakeholders within varying spheres of influence.
