About The Role

Join AEMO's Strategy team and play a key role in shaping Australia's energy future. As the energy transition accelerates, AEMO faces increasingly complex strategic challenges and opportunities. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to meaningful, enterprise-wide change during a once-in-a-generation transformation of the energy sector.

Reporting to the General Manager Strategy, you will work within a high-performing team to develop and execute AEMO's strategic priorities. Leveraging your energy industry and strategic planning expertise, you will translate long-term strategy into actionable short- and medium-term plans, lead strategic and corporate planning processes, and ensure alignment with financial and investment objectives. You will bring strong problem-solving capability, have a strategic mindset and the ability to navigate complex, ambiguous challenges. Success in this role requires exceptional communication, stakeholder engagement, and collaboration skills, as well as the ability to influence outcomes at various levels across the organisation. This role also includes support the development of junior team members.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Lead AEMO's annual strategic and corporate planning process, translating long-term strategy into actionable 1–3 year priorities and initiatives.
  • Partner with senior leaders across the organisation to align strategic priorities with divisional plans, financial outcomes, and investment decisions.
  • Develop compelling justifications for the strategic initiatives, clearly linking to stakeholder value, benefits, and organisational outcomes.
  • Have oversight and accountability of strategic performance reporting by monitoring progress against key initiatives within the corporate plan, drawing critical insights on performance for Board, ELT and stakeholders, and proactively drive continuous improvement in planning and reporting frameworks.
  • Prepare high-quality Board and Executive-level strategy materials, while mentoring junior team members and fostering a collaborative, high-performing team culture.


What You Will Bring To The Role

Experience and Knowledge

  • Demonstrated experience in strategy development, corporate planning, or management consulting, ideally within the energy sector or a regulated utility environment.
  • Proven ability to translate strategy into actionable plans, prioritise initiatives, and develop compelling justification for the initiatives that deliver stakeholder and organisational value.
  • Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to navigate ambiguity, structure complex challenges, and develop clear recommendations.
  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder engagement skills, including experience preparing high-quality materials for Executive, Board, and external audiences.
  • Ability to build strong relationships, drive cross-functional collaboration, and effectively manage competing priorities in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
