Who is the ACF?
For over 60 years, the Australian Conservation Foundation has been Australia’s most respected voice for nature and climate. We are the environment organisation committed to protecting our unique and beautiful wildlife and natural world.
ACF is inclusive, non-partisan, and proudly funded by the Australian community. Whether it’s advocating for the Great Barrier Reef, koalas snoozing in big old trees, or strong climate action, our dedicated community of more than half a million people are working to create a world where forests, rivers, people, and wildlife thrive.
In January 2026, ACF welcomed Adam Bandt as our new CEO - a dynamic and visionary leader stepping in at a time when nature and climate need us most. With deep experience and a fearless commitment to change, Adam’s energy and leadership will guide ACF into its next powerful chapter.
This is a thrilling time to join ACF as we build on a proud 60-year history and leap into the future with bold leadership, renewed momentum, and a passionate community behind us.
What’s the gig?
As the Nuclear Free Campaigner, you will lead ACF’s work to move Australia away from the high‑cost, high‑risk nuclear industry and toward a clean, renewable energy future.
Working as part of ACF’s Climate & Energy team, you’ll track and challenge the uranium sector, support advocacy for responsible radioactive waste management based on Free, Prior and Informed Consent, and work closely with First Nations communities impacted by uranium mining. You’ll also monitor political and industry developments around domestic nuclear power, as well as nuclear waste and safety issues linked to AUKUS, helping to ensure Australia’s energy future remains renewable, safe and just.
Reporting to the Head of Climate & Energy Program, the role involves a mix of public advocacy, political engagement, media, mobilisation and collaboration across the climate and conservation movement.
About you!
You’re a strategic, values‑driven campaigner who thrives in complex, high‑stakes political environments and is motivated by achieving real‑world change. You bring substantial experience delivering social change campaigns that combine public advocacy, direct political engagement and mobilisation, and you know how to adapt tactics in response to shifting political and industry conditions.
You have a deep commitment to a nuclear‑free future and to advancing First Nations justice, and you approach this work with respect, care and accountability.
You’re skilled at analysing political, corporate and industry contexts and turning insight into clear, effective campaign strategies that balance ambition with sound risk management. You are able to communicate confidently and professionally with a wide range of audiences, including decision‑makers, movement partners and the media, and you’re comfortable representing an organisation publicly through media and speaking engagements.
You work collaboratively and generously, bringing strong relationship‑building skills, emotional intelligence and resilience to your work. You also bring proven project management capability, with a track record of planning and delivering complex work on time and within scope, while keeping others informed and engaged.
You’re flexible and willing to travel interstate, regionally and potentially remotely as required to support campaign objectives and build meaningful relationships.
Why work with us?
You’ll do important work with one of Australia’s most impactful organisations, and with our world-class organisational culture and great team, we guarantee you’ll have fun along the way.
