Position Summary:
The Center offers seven weeks of camps for children ages 6-9. The Seward Audubon Center summer camps are very popular. As a result, many campers are either returning campers or are siblings of previous campers. Our camp programs are entirely outdoors, and our location provides many opportunities for hikes and swimming.
This position begins on July 5, 2023, and includes staff training from July 5 to July 7. Summer Nature Day Camp starts on July 10, 2023, and ends on August 18, 2023. There will be no summer camp for the week beginning Monday, July 31. The daily work hours are 8:00 AM through 4:00 PM, Monday to Friday.

The summer camp counselor co-lead will share responsibilities in delivering our nature-themed summer camps. Two co-leads will administer the day-to-day camp operations for one group of 16 children each week. The camp curriculum and activities have been developed specifically for our camp, so the co-leads are not required to create new material.

Compensation:
$20.00 / hour
Essential Functions: - Assist in developing and implementing eight weeks of ecology/nature-based curriculum.
- Co-lead a group of up to 16 children for the day–long sessions.
- Maintain a physically and emotionally safe environment.
- Learn and follow COVID safety protocols.
- Resolve conflicts and student needs in a caring and positive manner.
- Ensure participants are safe and operating in areas free of hazards.
- Set up and clean up camp materials and equipment.
- Supervise campers and organize enrichment activities.
- Keep track of supplies and materials and address potential needs.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Knowledge of or interest in local ecology and natural history.
- Ability to teach natural history concepts and the desire to work outdoors and lead hikes.
- Experience working with children preferred.
- Strong oral communication skills, especially when speaking with camp parents and guardians.
- Ability to work well as part of our team.
- Must be able to commit to the entire period of work.
- Willing to work outdoors in varying terrains and weather conditions for extended periods with or without accommodation.
- Experienced swimmer
- Must have current immunizations/medical forms; CPR and First Aid certification is a plus.
