Position Summary:
Reporting to the Interim Vice President, Audience Engagement, the Senior Associate, Digital Engagement will contribute to the development and implementation of Audubon's digital engagement efforts to build and maintain a diverse community of loyal members and advocates ready to take the action needed to advance Audubon’s mission.

The Senior Associate will support regional and national efforts, especially in our Central & Pacific Flyways. The role will work closely with Conservation Policy, Climate, States, Network, Direct Response, and Communications staff to ensure a holistic approach to engaging Audubon’s 1.8 million members and nationwide network of chapters and volunteers.

The Senior Associate, Digital Engagement will help develop and execute online digital advocacy strategies to support the organization’s conservation policy priorities, including creating action alerts and crafting emails. The Senior Associate will be a data-driven storyteller who will produce compelling content and utilize technology to reach and engage people through digital platforms to drive meaningful change. They will join a sophisticated digital team and will be responsible for helping to balance the needs of a nationwide network to ultimately deliver on organizational goals.

Essential Functions:
  • Support advocacy and organizational goals through creative digital tactics across social, web, email, and digital advocacy and organizing platforms.
  • Take complex environmental and policy concepts and translate them into succinct and effective copy and visuals.
  • Write, edit, design, and produce high-quality and effective communications including email newsletters, action alerts, broadcast and peer-to-peer text messages, and web assets.
  • Provide digital support in best practices on effective communications and technology platforms (CRM, web) for Audubon state offices, nature centers, and regional chapters as directed.
  • Stay abreast of digital trends and pitch content ideas that will reach and engage Audubon’s target audiences.
  • Balance needs across regions and teams to ensure audience-first thinking, including collaborating on communications calendars, social media posting schedules, and work plans.
  • Create reports and provide data-driven feedback and recommendations.
  • Work with Audubon’s national network to identify opportunities to elevate local content.
Qualifications and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in advocacy, campaigns, marketing, communications, public relations, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in social media, digital communications and marketing, or digital advocacy.
  • Experience with digital tools, such as CRMs (EveryAction, ActionNetwork), broadcast texting (Upland Mobile), P2P texting (GetThru, Hustle), distributed organizing (ControlShift, Mobilize), and/or web content management platforms.
  • Ability to learn and master new technology platforms.
  • Demonstrated experience elevating voices, ideas, needs, and concerns of communities of color and other people historically marginalized in America and the conservation movement.
  • Experience with data-driven decision-making.
  • Working knowledge of Canva, Photoshop, InDesign a plus.
  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn basic HTML and CSS.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with proven writing, editing and proofreading ability.
  • Excellent organizational skills; attention to detail.
  • Non-profit and/or environmental conservation experience, a plus.
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours including weekends and evenings and occasional travel.
  • Commitment to Audubon’s role as an evidence-based conservation organization that works across the political spectrum to carry out our mission through science, political advocacy, education, and on-the-ground conservation.
  • Spanish-language proficiency, including reading and writing, a strong plus.
