Position Summary:

Spring Creek Prairie Audubon Center seeks two Seasonal Educators to assist in growing our successful environmental education and public programs. Located in the tallgrass prairie region of southeast Nebraska, the Center's 850 acres are managed for over 225 bird species and provide an outdoor classroom visited by over 10,000 students and adults each year. We seek a person with strong educational and communication skills to work on a variety of different projects. The Educator will work with staff to facilitate the Center’s fall Prairie Immersion school program as well as its Fall Festival and other public programs. This is a 3-month part time assignment, planned to start mid-August and run through mid-November.

Essential Functions:
  • Facilitate Prairie Immersion school programs on site for elementary students
  • Assist in preparing, and leading public programs for audiences of all ages and abilities at Center and offsite
  • Assist in creation of program materials
  • Work closely with Education team to plan and implement programs
  • Assist with maintenance of buildings and grounds, Visitor Center operations, plus other miscellaneous tasks
  • Occasional weekend office duty required
Qualifications and Experience:
  • At least one year of experience working with children and adults in an outdoor educational setting
  • High school diploma with either some college education in subjects such as biology, education, environmental education, environmental science, or related field preferred, or comparable professional experience
  • Enjoy working diverse audiences of all ages and abilities
  • Flexible, professional, self-motivated and experienced in friendly visitor services
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Bilingual (English and Spanish) desired, but not required
