Te Whiwhinga mahi - The Opportunity – Senior Climate & Sustainability Specialist

This role will manage reporting requirements such as annual climate disclosures, ensuring compliance with mandatory regulatory reporting frameworks, such as the Aotearoa New Zealand Climate Standards and coordinating with independent third‑ party assurance providers to support the verification and assurance of annual emissions inventories and metrics.

This role will also involve managing climate and sustainability datasets, analytical tools, dashboards (e.g. Power BI), and databases.

Key Tasks will include:

  • Contributing to activities to transition AT to low-emissions, climate resilient organisation and meet Council's objectives under the Auckland Climate plan
  • Collecting, collating, and preparing information to meet reporting requirements for AT, Auckland Council Group, Ministry for Environment and Government Treasury
  • Coordinating with and responding to third party assurance providers
  • Investigating organisational systems, process and tools, and participating in the development of new tools, templates and processes to embed the response to climate change across the organisation
  • Prepare high quality written and visual materials
  • Building and internally promoting knowledge and data bases of key climate change information
  • Collaborating closely with internal stakeholders, including corporate, finance, operations, and project delivery teams
  • Contributing to procurement process and contact development


Nā tāu rourou | What will you bring?

  • Engineering, Science, Economics, Climate Studies, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of five years’ experience in climate reporting, emissions accounting, sustainability, financial reporting, data management or related consulting roles
  • Desirable will be
  • Demonstrated expertise in climate science, carbon accounting methodologies (including the GHG Protocol and relevant ISO standards), environmental metrics, and New Zealand climate reporting standards and advanced capability in Microsoft Excel, business intelligence tools, and database querying and analysis.
  • Attention to detail, high quality writing skills, excellent documentation practises and personal resilience sufficient to support third party assurance processes
