Principal Sustainability Advisor

About the Role
We are looking for a Principal Sustainability Advisor to join our team at Auckland Airport to lead the development and delivery of strategic sustainability workstreams. The role will be part of the Sustainability team, and will work collaboratively across the business to integrate sustainability into the Airport's operations.

The Sustainability team at Auckland Airport works across a wide range of topics with our current focuses being scope 1, 2 and 3 decarbonisation, waste minimisation, climate change adaptation, nature enhancement and social procurement. This role will be a leading contributor to these work programmes, covering a broad range of responsibilities across strategy development, implementation and stakeholder engagement.

Key responsibilities will include:  

• Reporting: Lead or contribute to Auckland Airport's climate-related disclosure process and greenhouse gas inventory

• Strategy development: Lead and contribute to the development of sustainability strategies that are aligned with business objectives

• Strategy implementation: Lead the implementation of sustainability strategies, with a focus on the waste minimisation strategy

• Stakeholder engagement and collaboration: Engage with internal and external stakeholders to build partnerships and drive sustainability on the Auckland Airport precinct and wider industry 

• Continuous improvement and benchmarking: Provide expert advice on emerging trends, risks and opportunities in sustainability 

 

What you'll bring to the role:

To fill the role, we're looking for a strategic thinker with an ability to collaborate and influence to achieve change across a diverse and complex organisation. While we're primarily looking for a Principal Sustainability Advisor who has experience across a diverse range of sustainability topics, we're open to applications from subject matter experts in the areas of aviation decarbonisation or climate risk, adaptation and reporting.

To ensure your success in this role, you will need:

• 10+ years' experience with a proven track record of leading sustainability initiatives within a complex organisation. 

• A tertiary qualification in environmental science, climate change, sustainability, engineering or a related discipline.

• Experience developing and implementing sustainability strategies. 
• Aviation and/or waste minimisation experience is desirable.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including strong presentation skills to people at all levels of the business, from operational teams through to leadership.

• Strategic and critical thinking skills to evaluate multiple solutions and make connections to wider business objectives.

• Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to influence and build relationships across diverse groups.

• Project management skills and an ability to prioritise across multiple workstreams.
