Climate Modeling Lead (Agriculture) Berlin-based / Hybrid
At atmo, we build AI-driven systems that translate farm-level data into credible emissions baselines, decarbonisation pathways, and forward-looking climate predictions. Our platform empowers financial institutions and food system actors to make decision-grade climate assessments, aligned with leading international standards — effectively unlocking climate finance for sustainable agriculture.
We’re looking for a Climate Scientist with a strong modeling background to design, implement, and continuously improve the quantitative core of our product — from emissions models to mitigation pathways and solution screening — in close collaboration with the CTO and engineering team.
- Design and own farm-level GHG models, covering emissions baselining, mitigation levers, and decarbonisation pathways across agricultural systems.
- Translate GHG Protocol, IPCC guidelines, and related frameworks into computational models suitable for production use.
- Define model structure, boundaries, assumptions, and dependencies within Atmo’s agricultural data model.
- Develop scenario, pathway, and prediction models (e.g., practice adoption, emissions trajectories, yield and cost impacts).
- Research, evaluate, and screen agricultural decarbonisation solutions (practices, technologies, nature-based solutions), assessing mitigation potential, feasibility, and scalability.
- Quantify and manage uncertainty, data gaps, and variability in heterogeneous farm datasets.
- Validate models and solution assumptions using peer-reviewed research, benchmarks, and empirical data.
- Collaborate with the CTO to ensure models are explainable, performant, and maintainable in an AI-driven system.
- Document methodologies, assumptions, and solution logic clearly for internal use, external stakeholders, and audit readiness.
- Strong background in climate, agricultural, or land-use modeling.
- Experience translating scientific research into quantitative, decision-grade models.
- Deep familiarity with IPCC guidance, GHG Protocol, and emissions accounting for agriculture and land use.
- Proven scientific research expertise; a PhD is helpful but not required if equivalent applied research experience is demonstrated.
- Experience assessing mitigation options, trade-offs, and real-world constraints in agriculture.
- Comfort working with uncertainty, scenario analysis, and imperfect data.
- Ability to collaborate closely with AI, product, and engineering teams.
atmo’s impact depends on turning climate science into models that guide real decisions. In this role, you will:
- Shape the core modeling and solution logic of an AI-based climate platform.
- See research and methodologies translated directly into production systems.
- Contribute to enabling credible, scalable climate action in agriculture and finance.
- Work closely with the founder & CEO, CTO and impact driven team
