Energy Efficiency Specialist
Job Description
Overview
We are seeking an experienced Energy Efficiency Specialist to support and manage energy efficiency programs and projects in a regulated utility environment. This role is responsible for overseeing scope, schedule, budget, and compliance for BPU-approved energy efficiency initiatives, while coordinating with internal teams, vendors, contractors, and customers. The ideal candidate brings strong program and project management experience, hands-on knowledge of energy conservation measures, and comfort operating independently in a fast-paced setting.
Key Responsibilities
Provide program and project management oversight for energy efficiency initiatives, ensuring compliance with BPU orders, program requirements, and cost-effectiveness standards
Develop, manage, and maintain processes for implementing BPU-approved energy efficiency programs
Coordinate with internal stakeholders, vendors, contractors, customers, and external consultants to ensure program rules, timelines, and reporting requirements are met
Manage vendor and contractor activities, including reviewing deliverables, monitoring performance, and processing milestone-based invoices
Perform and oversee QA/QC for programs and projects, applying knowledge of energy efficiency measures and energy savings techniques
Conduct project site visits as required within the service territory
Compile, analyze, and report project data to monitor progress, performance, and compliance
Prepare management and regulatory reporting, including monthly project status updates and financial forecasts
Maintain strong customer relationships and ensure high levels of service and satisfaction
Ensure compliance with safety protocols and internal business controls
Support special projects, ad hoc requests, and storm restoration efforts as required
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree plus 5+ years of experience in energy efficiency programs, construction, or a related field
In lieu of a degree, 9+ years of relevant experience
Experience processing milestone-based construction payments and forecasting project spend
Strong knowledge of energy efficiency measures, implementation methods, and associated costs
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
Strong attention to detail with a focus on process improvement
Knowledge of New Jersey energy efficiency frameworks, including CEF programs and the NJ Cost Test
Ability to travel within the service territory for meetings, site visits, and inspections
Valid U.S. driver’s license
Preferred Qualifications
Vendor management and invoicing experience
Building Performance Institute (BPI) certifications
Certified Energy Manager (CEM)
