Industrial Internship - Rail (5627)
This is an exciting time for the transport sector as governments look to evolve their existing transport infrastructure to address changing travel patterns, emerging technologies and the challenges presented by climate change, particularly in the rail environment. Our Rail design teams are focussed on developi ng fully integrated railway designs which meet the needs of government, rail operators, the travelling public and others impacted by the railway. These designs may be for a new railway (or other guided transport system), for an extension to an existing system, or an enhancement by the introduction of a new technology .
The Opportunity
On this 10–12-month Internship you'll work alongside skilled professionals and from day one you will be working on real life meaningful projects - adding add value to clients, while exploring challenges with curiosity and creativity. You'll learn from others and begin creating your professional network ready for when you graduate. There will be regular learning sessions with our leadership team, opportunities for site visits to local projects and all kinds of social events that will support your learning and development.
Our aim is to welcome as many students as possible back into our other programmes, be that another internship or potential graduate position. This placement is the stepping-stone to your future. In this role, you'll help us to deliver effective and professional services for a range of varied and high-profile clients. While you'll have a great deal of responsibility from day one, we'll give you the chance to take on more as you progress and broaden your skills.
You will provide support to team members to deliver an effective and professional service to our clients. Due to the multi-disciplinary nature of our design teams, you will have the opportunity to work alongside experts.
Due to the nature of our work you will have the opportunity to gain a broad range of experience, including feasibility studies, site investigation, preliminary and detailed design, and liaison with clients, contractors and third parties. Projects will be allocated to you, ranging in scale, duration and design stage, providing you with a diverse working environment.
Is this role right for you?
From the outset you will be supporting the successful delivery of Rail projects, building relationships within the team and across the wider Arup community. Typical day to day tasks will include researching and analysing engineering problems to develop technical solutions that meet the requirements of the project and the client; utilising specialist software to create 3D models; supporting the management of projects through financial and progress reporting; as well as participating in technical workshops and client meetings. This varied experience alongside working for a range of different clients will provide a well-balanced start to your professional career.
