Staff Mechanical Systems Engineer
Archer is an aerospace company based in San Jose, California building an all-electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft with a mission to advance the benefits of sustainable air mobility. We are designing, manufacturing, and operating an all-electric aircraft that can carry four passengers while producing minimal noise.

What you'll do:
- Lead and support the development of one or multiple of the critical, actuated mechanisms on the aircraft
- Team responsibilities include the propeller tilt mechanism, the variable pitch mechanism, the flight controls surface mechanisms (flaperons and ruddervators), and the landing gear systems
- Own and execute on the technical direction of the designs, as well as the management of their delivery, conformity, test, and certification
- Mentor Jr. engineers in areas mentioned in the requirements section
What you need:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical/Aerospace engineering (or related)
- 7+ years as Mechanical Systems Engineer
- Demonstrated ability to take ownership Demonstrated ability to thrive in ambiguity
Experience and ability to perform and mentor junior engineers in the following areas:
- GD&T for mechanical systems.
- Kinematic analysis and optimization.
- Design for 14 CFR Part 23 compliance to systems requirements.
- Structural analysis utilizing hand calculations and finite element methods.
- Materials selection inclusive of alloys, heat treatments, allowables, and surface treatments.
- Siemens NX CAD and Simcenter or Ansys FEA tools.
- Roller element bearing selection and sizing.
- Involute gear tooth design and analysis.
- Ball and/or Lead screw design and analysis.
- Analyses: Modal, nonlinear and linear, buckling, fatigue.
Bonus Qualifications:
- Familiarity with PDM systems
- Project/Program management experience
- Proficiency in Matlab, Python, Mathcad, and/or Labview
- Hands-on machine shop or mechanic experience (professional or hobby)
- RTCA DO-160, structural, or actuated mechanism testing experience
- Demonstrated interest in aviation including pilot training/license

We drive a pay-for-performance culture and reward performance that supports the Company's business strategy. For this position we are targeting a base pay between $163,200- $204,000. Actual compensation offered will be determined by factors such as job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
