Arch Street Communications is looking for an experienced Program Manager to help lead communications strategies that support climate, energy, and infrastructure initiatives. This role is ideal for a strategic communicator who is passionate about advancing projects that deliver lasting environmental and community benefits.
About the Role:
The Climate Strategy Program Manager is a senior client-service and project management position responsible for supporting and leading communications, community engagement, and public participation initiatives that advance climate, energy, infrastructure, resilience, transportation, workforce development, and sustainability projects.
Working closely with clients and ASC project teams, the Program Manager develops and implements communications and stakeholder engagement strategies, manages project delivery, and helps clients navigate complex public-facing initiatives. This role requires strong project management skills, sound judgment, and the ability to translate technical, policy, and infrastructure-related topics into clear, accessible communications for diverse audiences.
The Program Manager manages multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring work is delivered on time, within budget, and in accordance with ASC's standards for quality and client service. The role also supports proposal development, thought leadership initiatives, client relationship development, and the continued growth of ASC's Climate Strategy practice.
A sample of what you'll be doing:
- Serve as the primary day-to-day contact for assigned clients and projects, helping build strong relationships and deliver excellent client service.
- Develop and implement communications, stakeholder engagement, and public outreach strategies that support climate, energy, infrastructure, resilience, and public-sector initiatives.
- Manage project schedules, budgets, staffing, deliverables, and reporting requirements, ensuring work is completed on time, within budget, and in accordance with ASC quality standards.
- Coordinate and supervise project teams, vendors, subcontractors, and client stakeholders to support successful project execution.
- Help clients navigate stakeholder dynamics, public-facing challenges, and community engagement opportunities associated with complex projects and initiatives.
- Develop communications materials including presentations, fact sheets, newsletters, website content, social media content, talking points, and public-facing materials.
- Translate technical, environmental, infrastructure, planning, and policy-related information into clear and accessible communications.
- Plan and facilitate public meetings, workshops, stakeholder sessions, focus groups, and other engagement activities.
- Advise clients on stakeholder engagement approaches, community relations strategies, and public participation best practices.
- Communicate effectively with government agencies, community organizations, elected officials, project partners, businesses, and members of the public.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior staff while fostering a collaborative and accountable team environment.
- Support proposal development, business development activities, thought leadership initiatives, conference presentations, and industry networking opportunities.
- Contribute to ASC marketing, professional development, and company-wide initiatives while helping identify opportunities to strengthen client relationships and expand services.
Qualifications:
- 5–7 years of experience in communications, public affairs, stakeholder engagement, public relations, community engagement, government relations, planning, sustainability, infrastructure, resilience, transportation, workforce development, or related fields.
- Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.
- Experience supporting climate, energy, infrastructure, environmental, resilience, transportation, workforce development, economic development, or public-sector initiatives.
- Demonstrated experience managing projects and client relationships.
- Experience coordinating teams, consultants, vendors, or project partners.
- Experience working with government agencies, municipalities, utilities, community-based organizations, planning organizations, or public-sector clients is strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with climate policy, energy transition issues, resilience planning, infrastructure implementation, community engagement, or community-based planning is preferred.
Must-haves:
- Strong project management and organizational skills, including the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Excellent written, verbal, presentation, facilitation, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to translate technical, policy, environmental, infrastructure, and planning-related concepts into clear and accessible communications.
- Experience facilitating meetings, workshops, stakeholder discussions, public meetings, or community engagement activities.
- Strong judgment, problem-solving abilities, and attention to detail.
- Ability to work effectively with clients, colleagues, community stakeholders, elected officials, and public-sector partners.
- Experience mentoring and supporting junior staff.
- Comfort working in a fast-paced consulting environment with evolving priorities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and virtual collaboration tools.
- Passion for climate, energy, infrastructure, resilience, transportation, economic development, or community-focused work.
A hybrid company, you will work in our NYC office 2 days per week and remotely 3 days per week, and will also need to occasionally work onsite at client locations for meetings and events.
